There is no difference in materials as a WSM.

I have never seen my or anyone else's WSM peel and rust like this due to heat.

Got this from the Cuisinart review page and this was only after one summer of use.

Have you known anyone with the char-griller? I like my MB Gravity Series, just wish it had a little better quality in materials.

My bad on name, yeah a buddy got one. It’s definitely a bit better built, but I get my masterbuilts on close out and keep them inside when not in use so mine may outlast his because his sits outside under a cover.

How many years do you think you will get out of both? I've seen a lot of those only make it a few years before they are toast.

5 years maybe more keeping inside and replacing parts. I get mine on deep discount from Walmart when they are usually $250. Watch brickseek in September-November. I’ve gotten a 650 for less, and my 800 last year for that. A few years is worth that much for the ease of use and quality of taste.

My issue is with your outright lie. Weber is hands down a more solid unit. The following is a snippet from a comparison website:

Similar to the Weber Smokey Mountain in design, but lighter in build, Cuisinart’s COS-116 is another solid bullet-shaped model.

lighter

Sorry bud, but your claims are outright lies. The Cuisinart is made with inferior materials. Sorry to burst your bubble.

he 2 I'm looking at so far are a wifi traeger or a big green egg or another kamado. What else should I look at ?

Pellet will be the easiest along with the charcoal gravity smokers; however, they need electricity. Something to consider if you live in South Louisiana during hurricane season.

You could go the least expensive route and get something like a Smoke Chief Cold Smoke Generator to attach to your propane grill. Again you would need electricity.

Kamado, Kettle, or PK will be the most versatile charcoal cookers that can grill & smoke. They are all pretty much set and forget with minimal learning curves.

Drum smokers like the WSM, Pit Barrel, Hunsaker, and Gateway would all be good first dedicated smokers, especially if you wanted more capacity than the grill/smokers.

Stay away from offset, as it’s more work than what you indicate you’re up to.

The bottom line is there is a lot of ways you can go, and most of them will get you there. Just pick the one you like the best or think you like the best.

You aren't bursting any bubble.... Stay on topic here because you seem to stray from it.... I said the Weber is not worth 550 bucks, and this 100 dollar unit is similar in build and will do the exact same thing, for way cheaper. I have felt this first hand you you talk like everything except Webers are made of this sheet metal. Well you are lying to yourself.

I've had a few Webers.. they are great for what they are...but they are over priced. And yes I have had one rust out the bottom.

So I still don't know why you are obsessing over this... Nothing I have said is a lie as you claim. I posted a cheaper alternative for something similar as the named brand is over priced.

Damn. Not good. And alot of the reviews talk about difficult assembly, cheap hardware (wingnuts everywhere...lol) and it actually being smaller than advertised.

But it's cheaper!

You know how I know you're grasping? The incessant name calling and detracting from the facts. The cuisinart unit is less expensive due to inferior materials, construction, components and horrible reviews. You are getting absolutely shredded in this thread and continue to stick to your baseless argument. Hell, if you want a cheap bullet smoker and that is your main criteria, get the Master Built for less than $75. It will surely deliver similar results to the Cuisinart and WSM in the short term.

My suggestions.

Go on Craigslist and pick up a 22" Weber Kettle to start. I would not pass up a good deal on a WSM either. Use these for a couple seasons to learn. You may find you are satisfied with these and go no further.

But while doing this do yourself a favor and research Ugly Drum Smokers.
If you have a drill and maybe a jig saw ( for opening a closed top drum) you can build one on the cheap by using the grates and lid from your kettle. The hardest part is finding a food grade drum but they are out there. I probably have less the $75 in mine. I built a bare minimum drum thinking I can always improve it later but have not bothered.....yet.
Or as someone suggested you can buy a pre-made drum. Look into them. I don't think you will regret it.

I'd recommend a Smokai instead. They're higher quality and work better than the Smoke Chief or Smoke Daddy.

Like many have said, depends on the price. I have a Primo (thanks Wickowick) that I use every weekend at camp. It will do everything, but isn't a true smoker. Offsets are expensive for the ones with heavy steel that you need to retain heat, but are the truest "smokers". I have a 22" Weber kettle at home that I can do everything short of overnight brisket smokes on.

A digiq or similar controller makes all of them closer to a pellet grill, but with better true smoke, IMO

I started with an eletric smoker then moved to a Camp Chef pellet smoker. I now have an Oklohoma Joe's Bronco(barrell) and love it. It gives you the smoke flavor but with the ease of a pellet smoker on setting it and forgetting it. I can cook for 10-11 straight hours on one basket of charcoal.

because I called him a doofus, once? That's incessant? I guess you own a different dictionary than me. Seems a lot of people want to justify their almost half a grand expense on a piece of stamped metal. When they could have spent that on a kamado.

You keep exaggerating both extremes. First of all an 18 Inch WSM doesn't cost $550 and second of all there is no way the Cuisinart will last anywhere close to as long as the WSM.
