Bumping this up to the first page.

Everybody please contact Tate, Woodward and LSU DOB Damon Talley.

Tell them you want LSU to conduct a National Search for a new GBFTL Director and not another "Promote the Assistant Dog & Pony Show."

MAKE HALFTIME AT LSU GREAT AGAIN!

No.

Former member here. It’s not worth the crap that goes along with being on full athletic scholarship.

And no…one doesn’t need to play all year to be ready for TGBFTL. Perhaps helpful, but not needed.

DOB Damon Talley has no prior experience in either Marching Band or Drum Corps at any level,

Talley worked as an assistant for the University of Michigan and University of Texas marching bands. Those are two pretty good bands.

This would be the hire of all hires. He gets a statue if he helps pull that off

This hire is done…..and all the people talking about Linda….if Damon Talley is employed by LSU Linda Moorhouse will not darken the doors of the band hall.

As a Tiger band alum, all I can say is that it does the heart good to see a seven page thread about TGBFTL on TD. Some people actually pay attention to what TGBFTL does.

Tiger Band is not the worst marching band in the SEC…yet, however they are no longer in the top tier. Auburn, Bama, Tennessee, UGA, A&M, Moo State, and arguably even USCe and Florida have better bands. The last two used to be two of the worst in the conference
How is this determined? They don't perform in contests.

All it takes is using your eyes and ears. When opposing pep bands drown out the full Tiger Band, there's a problem.

I think it’s a travesty what’s happened to the band. They also need to cut down or out on the woodwinds and they need to beef up on the horns etc

I agree. This is why the Ohio State marching band is so loud, despite having only 228 members.

They have only brass and percussion instruments. No woodwinds.

I disagree.

If you're going to get a Full Scholarship Free Ride from the Athletic Department, you're going to play and practice all year. Of course, you scale it back during the Spring and Summer.......

Most band members only get the $1,000 stipend. If you think membership is low now, just wait to see what it looks like if practices are required year-round.

Also, check out the Directors page on the website. The Asst. Director for the band doesn't even have any kind of music degree listed and is an instructor for "Leadership Development" classes.

Not an expert on College bands but the Tiger Band definitely seemed louder when I was younger and more involved

Do you mean I’m not going to have to sit through yet another random song from the 60s or 70s that the band will play during halftime of a home football game? That band is about the worst thing going at LSU and it has nothing to do with the students and their talent.

True....however, Talley has never been the "director of record" for a college marching band. As an assistant, he was NOT responsible for the success/failure of those programs.

You are wasting your time. First, Talley would NEVER hire someone more talented than himself. Second, as long as the band "shows up," Tate, Woodward, etc do not care about the quality.
