You bought an expensive house before getting married? Why?

Yeah imagine only having 30k for someone who makes 200 and live on an average lifestyle. FYI food is very expensive in cities

I don’t have to. I did it you self righteous prick. You are the perfect example of the entitled generation that thinks they don’t have to live a normal life and get things as you earn them.

I lived in a expensive city, possibly more expensive than you right now in less than a quarter of your salary and lives well. This isn’t decades ago either.

In the end, you are a selfish and spoiled brat that thinks the world owes you your dream life out the gate and has no understanding that you need to pay off your debts before taking on a huge other one.

I have no sympathy for people like you. Also, if you are paying $50k for a car in a place like Boston, you are living in luxury given how much public transportation they have. Or are you too educated and good for the public transport?

You think people earning 70k can save 20k a year?

No they can’t because every month they have to brag on social media about how they ‘did a thing today’ for everything they buy.

My son (no pics, since you’re an aggie) is 24. Went to a local 4yr college because they offered basically a full ride on academic scholarship. Graduated in 3 1/2 yrs, finished with $0 debt and makes $80K/yr today. No one said you gotta go to aTm and rack up debt it was your choice.

I didn’t qualify for scholarships because I wasn’t able to get good grades

I wasn’t able to get good grades because I had to work all through out high school wake up 5am and took trash out of gas stations till 7am then come back from school at 3pm and work at 4pm for a gas station making ice bags and stocking and throwing trash till 8pm then had an hour before going to bed.

I had to do that because my parents were poor and didn’t have any help in funding.

So you tell me how I can qualify for scholarships where minimum gpa is 3.0 and rich kids can have extracurricular that I couldn’t afford or join societies that I didn’t have time for

Once again sounds like my wife.

There have always been rich kids who have an easier time in life. I knew plenty when I was in school too. I've lived a happier and more successful life than most of them because they didn't have to struggle and overcome.

You also admit there were scholarships you just didn't make grades. It's a hell of a lot easier to make grades today than before the internet when you had to pay for tutors and not just watch a video online or go to the library instead of looking up things with a few clicks. The amount of assistance now is just mind boggling. My son just got a 4.0 with 22 hours last Semester and STILL had a weekend job.

Life is hard and it isn't fair. You either choose to be thankful for the opportunities you have and find a way to overcome obstacles or become a victim.

If you got the government out of student lending and put universities on the hook for them, graduation rates would sky rocket and cost of tuition would plummet.

They’d also trim 40% of the overhead immediately.

I prefer to keep my compliments of Aggie rare, but I find this to be extremely reasonable for the caliber of education you get at Tamu. With the right degree, 10k/year with boarding is a solid investment in my opinion.

Don’t say that. We have communication majors too.

Tuition and room and board is double that now, FYI. It's about $10k/semester.

Grad School not undergrad. The entire point is I controlled my spending and lived modestly. I didn’t have the hottest phone, I didn’t get a brand new car. I loved within my means.

The biggest issue with higher education is people are given a loan to buy a Ferrari and end up using it to purchase a Civic.

College prices should be set at the degree level. Let the degrees with poor value fail or turn into minors.

Almost all STEM focused schools have added softer majors over the years. It started at GT 20 years ago.

I strongly suspect you can think the asinine beauty pageant that is the "COLLEGE RANKINGS!!!" system.

We all know how expensive it is. $40k over 4 years isn’t doable somehow but people going to Tulane and Rice (both at $50k+ a year on tuition alone) somehow manage to do just fine unlike you.

Hmmm, I wonder why that is.

The responsible thing to do is take your time and get married. Learn to manage your money together and not keep separate finances. Why would you hurry to buy an expensive house right now considering housing prices and rates?

It makes more sense to get a rental together and figure out what you really want/need. You just bought a $1.2 million house and will probably find out you hate a bunch of things about it because you didn’t know what you really wanted or needed.

One of the assistant mgrs here makes about 75k, has over 100k put away. He lives very frugally. He's worked here for about 6 years, in his upper 20s.
