You have all those uninsured motorists to thank. Just like free healthcare, we are paying for those that can’t afford health insurance OR/and are driving public roads without auto Insurance.
Driving uninsured should be a felony with minimum six month jail time.
But… nah..

It's getting unsustainable. Insurance prices are fricking obnoxious in this state.

Why is car insurance so much more expensive in Louisiana? Surely someone must know?

Because Louisiana takes more property losses and has more uninsured drivers than the rest of the country, besides Michigan.
Mix that with the fact that costs have increased (inflation) on everything your insurance is covering (your property, liability of damaging others property and medical in the event someone gets hurt in the accident)
Louisiana is a low income state, with a high cost of living.

So its the property claims that are driving up the costs and not the personal injury? Wow thats crazy.

I have been very lucky. No increase in auto rates and only minuscule rise in home
Owners 25 dollars for the year. Feel like I finally caught a break.

Home insurance with State Farm is $268 month currently. Might start looking around.

My home insurance is just awesome right now.
Just got my renewal. 49% increase from last year.
In Florida, those are rookie numbers.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but that would only apply to a company that ONLY writes Louisiana business.
Property losses has nothing (or very little) to do with it. Louisiana verdicts in auto liability have driven carriers out of the state. It's damn near impossible to be profitable there.
Texas is heading in that direction, too.

Mine went up 500 this year and 500 last year. I called our agent and he told me that I was fortunate that it only went up 500. A lot of people’s insurance had either been canceled or went up over 1000 on this year’s renewal insurance

Homeowners insurance is a financial disaster for Louisiana. I went from $4800 in 2021 to 12k in $2023

Just switched from Geico to progressive. Saving 150 a month. 2 cars.

My vehicle insurance hasn't changed by more than a few bucks but home owners insurance went up 40% in March. No claims on the house in 18 years.
Nationwide is not on my side.

You're getting hosed. I pay $380/month on 4 vehicles (only 2 with full coverage) with a 16 year old driver included.

The liability claims and amount of uninsured drivers has always been a factor in keep LA one of the highest state for auto insurance. Thats didnt change but add the following into the mix:
1.Labor wage increases due to labor shortages. No one wants to work so labor rates have increased to try and get workers.
2.Technology in the auto are abundant and components prices and availability are costly and in short supply.
3.Number of parts per claim. There are more individual parts to repair and replace than before. More parts more labor hours at increased labor wages....
4.Increase in amount of hours per claim. This one completes 3. It is taking longer to repair autos.
5.Increased storage and/or rental costs because it is taking longer to complete repairs because or labor shortage, more parts, waiting on parts.

La Ins. Commissioner Jim Donelon is doing an outstanding job for his constituents. Thats why he's been elected and re-elected 5 times since 2006.

What's the story with Michigan?
Same as LA except maybe worse. No other state has more uninsured drivers. The roads are the worst in the country due to politics and shitty weather (mostly politics). The salt on the roads when it snows just absolutely frick everything from your car to the road.
Only state that can give LA a run for its money with corruption. Detroit might be as bad or worse than NOLA.
Both places are shite holes. Source is me, I’ve lived in both places for a long arse time.
