Insurance for a newborn

Just had a baby boy a week ago and the delivery and insurance and all was a breeze at the hospital. Filing him under my Ins until I get his social # and then I can get him his own card, etc.
Made an appt for a pediatrician and the lady working the phone and the desk made it seem like such an issue that he didn’t have his own insurance and couldn’t process the fact he was born 48 hours before. Went back for a week checkup and made another stink about him not having insurance and made it clear that she could not file under my ins, when in fact it’s been done for years now with other parents and kids. You work at a pediatricians office for christs sake.
Made another appt with a different doctor over it. Why would I bring my child to an office where they can’t even get the paperwork correct?

When I worked in insurance, newborns were covered under the parent’s name for the first 30 days. As long as you call the insurance company and tell them the baby was born and give name and date of birth shouldn’t be an issue.
But, maybe things have changed.

Tricare puts them under the mom until 90 days after birth.
Alabama Medicaid enrolls them before they're born and updates the name/sex/DO B when they know it.
A pediatrician's office should know how to handle newborns under each insurance. It's literally what they do.

Are you a woman? I don't know why but it seemed standard and recommended to file on my wife's work insurance for the first 30 days before Jr and Jr2 was switched onto my insurance

This is key. I've been in medical/dental offices (and many, many, many other places) where forms with clear text SSNs were stored in publicly available spaces, and they didn't think there was anything wrong. I've walked from medical/dental when I get shady answers with why they kept asking me for an SSN they either already had, or didn't need.
*Especially* with kids (and medical care), great care must be paid because you're not putting a newborn with a new SSN on credit monitoring. Therefore, fraud won't be detected for years, or decades, until they try to get car insurance, etc.

My infant is less than four months old and we were in the same boat—putting her on my insurance, not my wife’s. I asked this question to the billing lady and she said they take my insurance info, then just hold the claim for a couple of weeks to give me time to get the cards in. Wasn’t a big deal at all.

Just find another doctor and be grateful that is the only issue you are having to deal with.

I’ve recently learned that anyone with less than RN at a doctors office is pretty incompetent and should be ignored.

30 days to get it sorted with insurance, typically cokes under moms coverage until then.
If you are dad, maybe that’s throwing them off?

Google review explaining why you left the practice. That’s the only way this sort of thing gets fixed.

Too young to drive IMO.

You should set it up before. You don't actually have to wait.
Also, there is a time limit during which he can be added.
