Never purely for breakfast, but will use their restrooms on a road trip. The lobby bathrooms aren't used very often and way cleaner than a typical gas station. I just walk in like I'm staying there.

My grandfather was an incredibly wealthy man. He came from absolutely nothing and built his business on hard work, determination, and a frugality that bordered on insanity. He would stay at the cheaper hotel property and drive to the nicer property for their breakfast. Always. Somehow the idea that it was the same parent company made it right in his eyes.

On one trip to Europe years ago and for nearly 7 years from 2006-2013 I was able to travel around Europe and stay in motels that offered what passes for breakfast in Europe. Bread of several varieties, hard boiled eggs, cold cuts and a variety of cheese. Those of you who know some shite know that a sandwich ain't nothing more than some bread, cold cuts and cheese...make about 4 extra sandwiches per person every morning, get a beer and eat sandwiches all day...my wife and I spent nearly a month in Europe in 1996 and spent less than $3k all in...we ate sandwiches in parks and in front of monuments with a cheap bottle of wine or a couple of bottles of beer or water....can't really make a sandwich at a US motel lobby breakfast....

I sneak out without getting the breakfast

I actually kinda forgot free hotel breakfast was a thing until this thread. I don’t think I’ve had it since I was a kid on vacation with my parents.

I wonder if it’s less of a thing to give for free these days. I’m in a hotel now and I don’t recall the checkin person telling me anything about breakfast. There’s an order form to stick on my door but i’m sure it has prices on it.

Easy to do. I was sitting in the breakfast area one time for a while preparing for a meeting when I wanted multiple people roll in who were clearly not guests. Some of them even knew the staff by name and were friendly with them. lol.

I have seen this several times around the country....kids eating breakfast in the lobby breakfast and catching a school bus in the parking lot....kids of the staff. I have seen those same kids in the pool in the evening LOL...kids being kids they don't care if anyone is paying for a room or not...

I may or may not have done it a time or two twenty years ago when I was a hungry musician trying to save money while on a series of out-of-town gigs…

We called it the “In Tents Tour”…because we slept in tents at national/state parks/camping grounds a few nights along our tour route.

Yeah, I know. Very trashy.

I definitely did that in college. We used to frequent a couple of places until they got hip and started kicking us out.

I suspect this may still be the case but when I was a young man I worked at Peachtree Center in Atlanta just down the street from the Peachtree Plaze. The Plaza had several high end restaurants in it but all of them were served from the same kitchen. Adjacent to the kitchen they had an employee dining facility and employees could eat breakfast and lunch, for free, from the menu of those restaurants...a lunch in one of those restaurants would cost about $10 at the time. Same food, no alcohol of course. Had to get there by 11 or there would be a line out the door. We ate there at least a couple of times a week for nearly 5 years....never paid a dime.

If you are in outside sales you alraedy know that hotels are the best option when you have to take a dump. Clean and for the most part private.

Back in my motorcycling days (1980s and 1990s), I knew someone who said he would drive up to a motel as someone was leaving, tell the maid he left his key in the room, and have her unlock the door for him (and he'd ask for a couple of clean towels). He and his biotch would shower and clean up before starting the day's trip.

When I traveled for work before, we would always book at the Hampton Inn.
One time, there were three of us, but they only had two rooms, so I stayed at the hotel across the street.
I walked over every morning and ate there with my coworkers.
Nothing was ever said.
We spent enough with Hampton that I didnt really feel bad about it.

No but those hotels are the go to if you need to stop for a dump….need to change clothes or have to feed/change a baby on a long trip.

Bathrooms are clean and usually empty and they have decent sitting rooms. I spent enough with Hampton/Hilton over the years to not feel guilty about it.

Just walk in like you’re staying there and nobody cares.

I did for 5 straight days purely by accident. Stayed in a Marriott chain in….Colorado maybe…anyway it was one big building with a Courtyard on one end and a Springhill suites on the other. I checked in at the Courtyard but every subsequent time I went downstairs I went through the Spring Hill so I ended up eating breakfast there too.

We were staying at a hotel in Plano for a soccer tournament. I noticed each morning that a large group of senior citizens would stroll into the hotel and help themselves to the free breakfast. On the third day, I asked someone at the hotel about it and they said the old people were from a nearby retirement community. The hotel was aware of what the old folks were doing but didn’t want to do anything about it and upset them.

OT is full of threads about thieving minorities.

So refreshing to read about thievery that mainly white people try and get away with.
