anyone ever heard a decent explanation how we got stuck with these retards?
We played them 12 times before 1924, then in the 40's we played 9 times, and then twice in the 50's. Then every season from 60 to 75. Then 86 to 95. So basically it was a preferred OOC matchup before they joined the conference. Looking at it, we have played them more often than we have Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Vandy, or Tennessee, despite being in the same conference forever.
The way politics go, I really wouldn't be surprised if LSU was the entity that sponsored and vouched for A&M to be admitted to the conference. Clearly they had ties with Arkansas, but I'd guess a charter member has more pull in these things.
That said, I wonder who made the case to take Missouri.

I am beyond excited that LSU is playing at USCe! It's not often that they play an hour from my house! We are going to the Tex 8&4 game this fall, then I will get to see them in 2024 in Columbia, then 2025 at Clemson. Can't wait!

This is only 24. I have not seen anything about annual schedules.

because we've played each other a TON prior to expansion.
more than we played a lot of SEC.
26 times from 1960 - 1995.
which is more than we played Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia combined during that same stretch.

they just recently passed Kentucky because the SEC changed the scheduling format.
we played the cats every year from 1952 through 2002

The St Louis and Kansas City TV markets made the case to take Missouri. That’s what expansion is all about.

Really wanted to get some payback on Tennessee, but i do like this schedule

Close enough to the new East/West that will hopefully get implemented...
I'll take Ark, Ole Miss, MS St., Mizzou, OU, Texas and A&M every year and then rotate two of the east teams ever year.
The only fair and objective way to get a new normal. The powers that be trying to "balance" the haves and have nots will never truly be fair. Geographical or bust!

We didn’t start playing them every year until the 92 expansion. I don’t love it but it doesn’t particularly bother me either
This. We rarely played them until the conference expanded in to two divisions, but the LSU/Auburn game has produced some games for the ages: earthquakes, fires, interceptions...

And since 1992 it has been our most consistently even rival. LSU and Auburn have had some great games.
You gotta throw Florida in there as well.
LSU is 16-14 vs Auburn since '92, and 14-16 vs Florida. Plus there have been just as many crazy games vs Florida as Auburn with fake kicks, thrown shoe, Hurricanegate...
But I won't really miss the Auburn game due to the fact that LSU will just play them the following year.
ETA: shite, those numbers don't include 2022.
From 1992 to 2022 LSU is:
15-16 vs UF (0.484)
17-14 vs AU (0.548)

Before initial expansion, we used to play Alabama, Miss State, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Florida, and Vandy.
Auburn and Georgia were once in a while, Tennessee even more rare.
I'm glad we got Florida this one more year, at least; the series is 33-33-3. We've taken the last 4 games, if we can win this next one at home, we're back ahead in the series, even after what Spurrier did to us in the 90's. I wonder if that's why we got them instead of Auburn. We're comfortably ahead in that series.

I wish LSU had gotten Texas rather than OK. LSU is 7-8-1 vs UTx, and could even up the series with their next game, while already having the series lead over OK, 2-1.

Regardless of the next configuration, LSU will play Texas starting in either 2025 or 2026 and every other year from that point forward.

So Bama is playing 5 former SEC East teams, and only 2 SEC West teams.
Makes sense.
Makes sense.

I know we played them a lot, but a kid's born the last year Kentucky was annual opponent can legally buy alcohol now.

Yeah, but we should've tied it up in 2020 already, so we'd be going for the series lead in 25/26.
LSU just can't beat UTx often enough for me.
