I’ve been in Vegas for the last week

And have been surprised at the lack of support by locals for an MLB franchise. Everyone I’ve spoken to, whether it be Uber drivers or cocktail waitresses, all of them sounded angry about the prospect of a new tax to pay for the stadium and the tearing down of the Tropicana.
MLB may have overestimated the willingness of Las Vegas locals to support a franchise. The revolving door of tourists attending games will only take you so far.

Vegas has quickly become a hockey town

They're turned off by the A's owner and the public funding aspect since the hockey team did not require it. I think the success of the Golden Knights has the the majority of people there preferring an expansion team.

Last night was pretty rowdy. I had a blast walking around the strip watching Knight fans celebrate.

Possibly. What I’ve heard sounds like they just flat out don’t want a baseball team which I thought was odd.

you don’t need to a big local fan base because the games will be packed by visiting team every game since the city itself is a big, cheap destination

This surprises you?

It sucks because it's not for the fans. It's so MLB and the owners can make more money. I watched the reverse boycott game last night...mainly because Hogan Harris is from lafayette, but those fans were awesome. Felt like a playoff game. It's not about the fans, it's about money.

Vegas has really embraced the Golden Knights and the Raiders. The immediate success of the Knights, and the mystique of the Raiders and popularity NFL has really helped.
Vegas had long desired a pro franchise. Almost overnight they are getting their third one. I can understand enthusiasm for yet another team isn’t anywhere close as to when the NHL and Raiders announced they were coming to Vegas.
Vegas is a boom or bust city. They’ve busted a couple of times in the last 15 years. First was the housing crash, then Covid. Asking a bunch of service industry and tourism employees to be taxed during uncertain economic times for a low rent MLB owner to get a new stadium is a big ask.

That’s what sucks Oakland has an awesome passionate fan base. When the A’s are good the coliseum while being a dump is a great atmosphere. It isn’t like Tampa where fans just don’t care.

Agreed. And as an A’s fan, this whole situation is so frustrating. I wish the cheapskate owner would just sell the team. He’s put nothing whatsoever into it and his actions indicate he doesn’t really give a shite. Also, F the Giants for blocking the A’s move to San Jose.

If you’re not a hockey fan, go to a game at T Mobile. You’ll become one before the puck even drops.

I would be too. Arenas and football stadiums get you concerts, Super Bowls, national championships, March Madness, etc. A baseball stadium might get you an all star no one watches every 20 years

Part of the proposal and NV legislation required a multi purpose venue for concerts and things in addition to being a ballpark.

Yeah, they've pitched that the new baseball park can host events like concerts and conventions that are too small for Reliant and too big for arenas or convention halls. Minute Maid Park has a niche in Houston like that.

Hotels and flights there are cheaper than anywhere, they gouge you on food

Yea but visiting fans will show up in boatloads to a weekend series. It’s not like MLB will lose the Bay Area TV market either

And rightly so. They've been good from their inception.
