Men's College Baseball - Has this been a successful year?

or is it championship or bust?

It's just College Baseball.

Everyone wants a title but I'd say with the injuries to pitching making it to Omaha in Jay's second year is a success. Doesn't mean I won't be mad if we get bounced.

This.
We lost several top arms, really tough to win a title like that. But to sweep postseason to get to Omaha and be a top 5 seed is a successful year.
I want more though

Going to Omaha is a successful year. You want to win it all for sure but I’m never going to be upset at a team that made it there.

To compare:
JJ has made Omaha in his second season. Kim Mulkey won a NC in her second season. Watch CBK make the playoffs his second season. All of this is going to shine a glaring spotlight on softball trending downward in Beth Torina’s 13th year. More and more people who count are going to be asking “what is she still doing here?”

We made it to Omaha without the bulk of our best pitchers
it’s also year 2. Things are going well.

IMHO, yes. Making it back to Omaha in your second year as head coach is remarkable. I think this year is a success for the baseball program regardless of the outcome in Omaha.

The season isn't over. The question before the season was would this team even lose double digit games-- not whether it was the best team in the country-- that was a given. We have the 2 best players in the country. We have a roster more talented than 6 MLB farm systems. We're losing our top 2 pitchers and 5-7 hitters. It's been 14 years since a national championship. We didn't win the SEC. We didn't win the SEC tournament. I can't envision a scenario in which not winning the national championship will be considered a successful season. I think the players would say the same thing. I'm not being negative about the 48-15 record thus far. I'm just saying, this team's season will transpire over what happens in the next 2 weeks-- not what's happened to this point. Going to Omaha was considered a given before the season started.

It was Omaha or bust for this team. I think they felt that too. Small weight should be lifted and now you just go play loose and try to bring one back. I will be disappointed if we don't win but it will have been a good season early in Jay's tenure no matter how it goes.
Had we not gotten to Omaha it would not have been a successful season.

All of this is why LSU fans melt every time they lose a game. It's completely ridiculous.
Making Omaha is a successful year no matter what.

Going to Omaha and winning a title should always be a goal but should never be a given. It's been proven every single year that the best teams don't win and don't always make it. They made it. It's absolutely considered a successful season if you leave it all out there. Winning a title is hard. In no way is it considered a failure if they don't bring it back. Fans who think like this are sad. Take a second and consider having some perspective on the season. We aren't the only talented baseball team playing this coming weekend. To say it's championship or failure is pretty sad.

Going to Omaha was a given before injuries. You wouldn’t agree losing shores and Taylor alone cost the team a few extra wins? We’d have surely already won 50+ with both of them.
“I’m not being negative”
your post screams crying
Most reasonable people temper expectations when problems arise.

Of course it’s been a success. Anyone that invests their time in LSU baseball witnessed two of the greatest players in our history on the same field, all season. 22 SEC wins (including SECT & Super) Soon to be a 50 win season, a regional & Super host, oh and a trip to Omaha.
That’s a great year to the LSU baseball fan.
Now if they want to go ahead and toss that cherry on top, I’m here for it.
Been a fun ride.

Yep. The goal at a program like LSU is Omaha. Winning it all is the icing on the cake. But this has def. been a successful year.

It's always championship or bust in college baseball. Especially here. But imo, this season is a huge success no matter what happens in Omaha.

“bulk of our best pitchers”.
We don’t know what Taylor was going to give us. Preseason talk is nothing until it’s proven. Don’t forever Cooper was going to be an all American based off preseason talk.

We lose a lot after this season. I’m not saying we will be bad next year, but this is the year to win it all.
