Does anybody carry insurance on their watches or jewelry other then wedding ring

I have a few watches I think it would be smart to ensure and there are a couple pieces of jewelry other than wedding ring. Lots of things online to choose from not sure what is real and what is not.
Also have a kid who is getting a Rolex from a relative for birthday. Do not want them to lose it, break it, etc. but worry they may.
Can I get insurance and does it just carry over when they are 18. I don’t mind paying for it to be covered.

Yes. It’s a valuable personal property policy (or rider, depending).
I got mine through USAA for a very reasonable price and just pay the monthly premium.

Insure the Rolex through Hodinkee. It’s backed by Chubb insurance which is the gold standard for jewelry.

Multiple policies out on this bad boy

Check Jewelers Mutual. You can work with jeweler of your choice. Rider policies tend to be like, kind, quality replacement - leaving you little room for your desired replacement. If it's a watch that's a 1 to 1, some things aren't that exact.

Same here. Have wife's rings, watches, and some other misc. safe items covered. It's been years, but I want to say it was only $10-20 a month extra.

Yes and I have filed a claim before and it was replaced without question. I have mine through State Farm.
I highly recommend for anyone with a substantial collection of expensive jewelry.

Nope, but only because besides the wife’s wedding ring we don’t have anything valuable enough to insure. If I get the watch I’ve been looking at I’ll carry insurance on it but I’ve got plenty to pay off between now and then.

We have jewelers mutual. I don’t like the idea of having a homeowners policy because if you have a claim it affects your homeowner’s rates. Guns and jewelry get their own policies

Curious what y'all's threshold is for insurance purposes on jewelry?
$1k
$5k
Etc

That depends on your income level. If you lost that jewelry, could you replace without being in debt?

Yes, a buddy of mine had his rolex stolen and it was replaced without question. Ever since I have all of my watches/wife's jewelry insured.
Sure enough a year or so later my wifes car was broken into and some jewelry stolen, all covered.

We have Jewelers mutual on my wife’s wedding rings. Premiums have gone up but it’s still a no brainer. I absolutely would not want to come out of pocket to replace if something happened. $20 a month albeit I just pay the annual premium when it hits.

That is a good way of looking at it.
I'm not insured with them, but I know that jewelers mutual does not report claims to repositories.
