re: Bugging out to a different country - permanently

Have been giving some consideration... not permanent but a year or a few years. While a lot of people like Costa Rica and it is close, I'm not sold on it. May take a trip and spend enough time to see what I think. But, the one place that stays at the top of the list is ... Portugal... reasonable cost, food, wine, culture and a short train ride away from a lot of history.
... maybe I could do a fund me page and the TD crowd that hates my posts will contribute. :)
... I will look at the link.

I'll stay here until I die.
But hypothetically, I'd probably go to a third world shithole in Asia or south America...and live in the luxury area for cheap. Keep in mind, I say this hypothetical with zero research on my part. My logic, which may be wrong, is.. the gov of a third world shithole probably keeps the rich areas protected. Kind of like how the rich areas here are better protected.

My high school buddy has a 2nd place in Costa Rica and talks about the great group of American ex-pats there, good environment Re the laid back govt, beaches, off shore fishing, etc
Did he tell. You about the substantial odds that within 20 years they will elect a communist government that confiscates all of that?

My brother and his wife moved to San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. About a 50/50 ex-pat/ local population. He loves it and says he is never moving back.

Not what you think anymore. Lots of anti American sentiment now.
LOL. There has always always been some anti-American sentiment. You're talking out of your arse. I was in the Philippines for a week looking at properties in Quezon and experiences not hate at all. We visited my GF family in Cagayan valley and not a single negative experience. Keep talking out of your arse, loser.
You're stuck here in the states. You have no where to go.

David, Panama, lots of ex-pats there as well as well as laws that give retirees lots of reasons to be there

Youngest son has been in Japan going on 5 years now, married to a beautiful Japanese girl with a 2 year old daughter. Loves it & is not coming back home. Locals are extremely polite, elders are treated with a ton of respect, schools high quality, no crime to speak of, especially in comparison to the thugs here, food is exceptional.

The Philippines sounds like a great spot for you. When do you leave? Do they have Internet there?

I don’t desire to live anywhere else. You can be happy anywhere.
I have heard that Portugal is the best place to go right now.
For those going to Costa Rica. Will you join the caravan and come back when the civil war breaks out?

Have heard others say similar things ... just seems like there would be a big culture shock experience.

The way to live is to think ahead. You don't so much live in a country as a neighborhood. I've moved 4 times in my life specifically to avoid a downturn I saw coming to a place I saw thriving in the future. I was right each time. Today I live in a great neighborhood. Will it change in the future? Sure, but I'll be dead by then.

My dad just moved to a little beach town close to the Spanish border a few months back. He absolutely loves it.

. The only negative is its very difficult for private citizens to own firearms.
This. Wherever I end up I need to be able to hunt. Whether birds small game or deer. I must be able to hunt with minimal hassle. LOL

I’ve heard Portugal was a good destination. It’s one of the few that’s fairly easy to emigrate to. That’s not the case in many countries, especially when you get older
