My insurance company recently denied pre-approval of this test. Ochsner did it at the cash rate which was about $130 if I remember it correctly.

I had one done for $0 which was what my score was, 0. Should be covered under preventative maintenance, at least in my plan it is.

No experience on the insurance issue but I have struggled with pvcs and Afib in the mast.

Supplements, sleep, hydration and limiting stress and eliminatinf alcohol worked for me.

Bro, should declare yourself an illegal immigrant ASAP. Illegals pay zero for healthcare

If they had expected you to pay that much, they would have made you pay it in advance. Just call them and explain your situation.

I was having some heart problems and my cardiologist asked me to wear a halter monitor that monitored my heart 24/7 for 21 days. When over they sent me a bill for basically $10,000! When I called them and told them my insurance wouldn’t cover that the lady said without hesitation, “just pay $129.50 and we’ll call it square”.

This was a very reputable cardiologist and hospital and they were purely trying to get money from my insurance company.

Abita, if offering advice I'd love some too.
Just today I received an EOB for an MRI, facility billed over $11k, Cigna adjusted down to $1,200. That alone is outrageous, but here's what's worse... when Cigna approved the MRI, I phoned them to get the out-of-pocket estimate before procedure. They took two days to consult the facility and get back to me. When they called back their estimate was $525. Fast forward to receipt of EOB today...
After an hour on the phone with Cigna today, they said "well that was just an estimate". $1,200 much different than $525. They are currently reviewing the case to listen to recording of the phone call when I received estimate, but told me they don't promise any recourse.

That might fall under the No Surprise Act. Good faith estimates. $525 is alot different than $1200 & they don't have to promise shite. They already gave you an estimate in "good faith".
One good thing our government has done.

As far as OP, did they provide you an out of pocket estimate?

These are not issues people should be concerned with (the cost of medical care). There are real issues out there to put energy in like.. Making sure companies stay away from using trannies as advertisement.

The calcium CT provider was likely out of network and will charge whatever the hell they want. It’s called surprise billing and it is shady as frick. Even if your plan says it will cover X% out of network, your plan will still have a maximum $ amount they will cover for certain services. The rest is considered as “unallowable”, which is the balance you got stuck with.

Do not pay under any circumstance. Ask for more details as others have said. File a dispute with your insurance.

Some states have protections against this practice. Sorry baw. Best of luck but there is a way out.

I just had mine done in BR two weeks ago. The doctor who ordered it told me it would not be covered by insurance, but the cost was around $100.00. I did the procedure and asked if I needed to pay in advance. They said no ~ I would get the bill int he next 3 months. But again, the technician told me the cost was around 100.00.

As many have already noted, these scans aren’t covered by insurance.

Just had this test done in Lafayette. Same symptoms. PVCs induced by steroid injections in my spine. Completed a stress test and echocardiogram, both covered by insurance. Calcium score I was told was not covered but cash pay was $50 for the scan. Last month I got a bill for $150 from some radiology group in Chalmette. I blew it off and then received the same bill again yesterday. I’m going to pay it today after reading OP post! $200 isn’t bad for a CT. Thing that sort of pissed me off was being told it’s $50 when reality is $50 for the scan, $150 to interpret.

I'll add here....make sure they filed the claim with your insurance provider (whether it's covered or not). Once they decide to deny the claim then you have appeal rights. At that point I would then appeal to the insurance company. To keep out of collections you can communicate this to the provider and keeping in touch with them doesn't hurt but the absolute first step is to request that they file the claim with your insurance and then wait for the EOP of denial from your insurance company.
