These three top 16 seeds lost and have a tough road.
A few others barely won baseball this time of year it’s the hot teams that are scary . Tulane was hot.
Win and advance.

How do you know they didn’t?

Why is it so hard to understand that the correct tournament strategy isn't dependent on an individual game result?
If a qb throws a touchdown into triple coverage because it was tipped and lucked into a td, would you post a thread talking about how it was a great decision? Bad decisions sometimes have a good immediate result.

Probably not. Auburn and Coastal’s starters pitched great. Coastal’s starter had a 6 inning no hitter and they took him out.
LSU has fallen as a program if they justify decisions based on what mighty Auburn, Coastal Carolina, and Oklahoma State do. Plus starting pitching didn’t lose those games for those teams.

Dude Coastal was up 8-0 and Rider scored 9 runs in the 7th off their bullpen.
Auburn went against the IVY league pitcher of the year, then couldn’t capitalize on the pen. Kid from Penn was dealing.
I’ll give you Okie State.
So 1/16
Another bad example from someone who probably doesn’t follow college baseball until June.

I do.
We’ll never know but I think we still could’ve beat Tulane.
We’ll see what Oregon St does tonight.

Tulane was 19-40. First 40 loss team ever in the tournament. You don't make decisions in hindsight, you make decisions based off of sound logic by playing the percentages. You live with whatever result comes of that.
You should not lose to a 19-40 team, period. If you're not setting yourself up with the best chance of winning the regional, because you're scared of losing game 1 to a bad team, then you might as well not show up.
None of this means we can't or won't win tonight. That isn't the point. We had a far greater chance to win tonight with Skenes, is the point. If you had lost without Skenes yesterday, if that's the hypothetical you want to play, then how much worse are our chances of winning today without him? This is how you evaluate and make a decision. Anything more than that, and you are overthinking it.

If we can’t beat Tulane with our 3rd pitcher we don’t deserve anything
Posted on 6/3/23 at 12:07 pm to TrueBaldPate
no...its the exact reason you have your ace ready in game 2...either to keep you alive or send you into the championship game...
Posted on 6/3/23 at 12:33 pm to TrueBaldPate
I think we should have done like we’ve pretty much done forever when hosting a regional…save our ace for game 2. With that being said, if we can’t count on Floyd and Hurd with a full Bullpen ready, to beat OSU/Tulane/SHU, then how are they gonna beat a SR or Omaha opponent? Again..I think our strategy was wrong..but I’m not that worried.

Coastal Carolina threw their best pitcher. Auburn lost due to offense. Oklahoma St took an unnecessary risk pitching a pitcher that had only 3 conference appearances.

USM pitched thier ace. He pitched a hell of a game. They lost. Was that a bad strategy?

Meh. There’s only one justifiable reason to start Skenes yesterday, and that’s to have him on full rest for game one of a Super in your home park next week. But everyone has to accept that is a big gamble on Johnson’s part. I think he’s hoping the rest of the staff is as good as it was in the SEC Tourney last week. If they are we are probably going to be just fine playing at home, but it’s still a gamble.
If we lose today and don’t make it out, Johnson will be roasted for this call and deservedly so. If we roll through today and this weekend and Skenes wipes the field with whoever we face in game one next weekend, it will look like the obvious decision. It’s a risk and we’ll see how it goes.

Lol, nice try to spin it but you are dead wrong. Their starting pitching did great. The bull pens of those teams gave up the runs

They all played a team 20 games under .500?

The parity in the sport these days make it real hard to overlook teams
For three one seeds possibly headed to 0-2 is unheard of before the smaller rosters
Maybe lsu could offer a tanner hall or the one at Nicholls
All I know is tomorrow is gonna be a lot of offense in Baton Rouge

If we win regional then it was the right move if we lose it then it wasn’t plain and simple. I would have went a different route considering it was against a very subpar team, but I ain’t the coach!
