I was on the diversion canal this weekend watching the APSD and Wildlife and Fisheries raking party barge operators over the coals while Bajas going 70 mph didn't seem too bothered. But what's new?
No law against going 70 per se, but kids without PFD's and operators drinking alcohol on a barge are easy prey and dangerous.

Recreational boating in the Mississippi feels a bit like riding a moped on the interstate.
have you ever seen the river below empire/buras. a constant flow of recreational boats, ocean going vessels, crew boats, barges, offshore logistics boats etc.

Pardon my ignorance, but I was unaware that recreational boating was allowed on the Mississippi River. Is it just certain locations?

A boat is a boat, no rule about private vessels being on the river, though I wouldn't want to be out there in any sort of small boat.

We would wakeboard in the Intracoastal between the LA1 bridge and railroad bridge and even that could get chaotic with barge traffic.

Sounds like a single boat accident, horrible.

I didn't realize St. Francisville had a riverfront and don't know of any docks or ramps near there except for the one in New Roads.

All that and you didn't notice St. Fran was on the waterfront, across the river from New Roads?

You can access the Mississippi from Old River in Innis if the water is right and you know the way.

How in the world is this "on the waterfront"?

Switch your view to Satellite. You can see the boat landing just down from the nuclear plant. Don’t turn into the nuclear plant unless you want to get grilled.

Yeah, I see the boat landing, which is where those river cruises come in. When someone says "XYZ City riverfront" I don't think of a road and a dock, I think of what you have in BTR and NOLA where parts of the city are actually on the river.

Hence my confusion since I haven't been up that way in 5-6 years, wasn't sure if they had built something out that way or not.

Also, isn't the nuclear plant downriver off of 965? That place next to the landing is the Army Corps Mat Casting yard according to maps.

I got downvoted in the Bahamas thread for saying that making people wear life jackets would save lives.

With that thinking, stopping people from being on boats would save lives as well.

I don't want to be punished bc other people are idiots. Example: forced lifejackets bc someone was wasted, driving a boat, and rammed into shite.

Unfiltered says the body has been found 14 miles downstream from the crash. Glad they found her for her family's sake. Another sad tale.

Can you explain this in a bit more detail? Was the barge already helping them when they crashed into it? Did the woman fall overboard from the crash or during the rescue?
