How is the income tax legal?

Punishment for those that work. A tax on less than 50% of the adults because they have a job. This is the most excruciatingly unfair tax. Eliminate ALL income tax and you get my vote. Consumption taxes are the only fair taxes. Eliminate the IRS in the process

They amended the constitution
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Because the thieves have the keys to the prison is why.

It was only going to be used a few years to pay for WWI and it would only effect the top 1%.

The amendment played a central role in building up the powerful American federal government of the twentieth century by making it possible to enact a modern, nationwide income tax. Before its adoption, the federal government collected most of its revenue from tariffs and excise taxes, which was largely seen as unfair. The income tax became by far the federal government's largest source of revenue before long.
Bastards. Fitting this was added right before the 17th amendment making Senators part of the popular vote. These two amendments can go away.

There's the whole Amendment to the Constitution thing.....so I'm guessing it's legal

The Patriot Act won't be used against the US population even though there's language that says we will. Wink

100% onboard with eliminating the IRS for any purpose related to individual income taxes. But, the plan has to have some protection for those older. By that I mean you can't screw them on paying income tax over their lives, and then tax then with a big consumption tax in retirement. Not sure I've hard a serious plan to address that. Could be they start it for anybody under 50 (any age that makes sense) and phase out the IRS. That of course has a downside with the corrupt DEM Party. IN short, when someone comes out with a real plan that works, I would support it. The IRS's control over individuals has to change.

1913 was a terrible year for the individual American:
1) 16th Amendment
2) 17th Amendment
3) Federal Reserve created
1) 16th Amendment
2) 17th Amendment
3) Federal Reserve created

Except they aren't though, they are regressive taxes that hit the poor disproportionately hard.

Ok, so you are good with eliminating social security, Medicare, the military, etc as well I'm assuming? Because they aren't free and run on magic pixie dust

If all those fools that voted for this back then could see what it's morphed into now they'd say oh boy, we fricked up.
Just goes to show how smart the Founding Fathers were not to include it. I guess they did just start that big old war over tax to begin with though and realized how it could get out of hand.

We can tackle both with a Convention of States.

What is your issue with the 17th?

It made the entire congress into a glorified House of Representatives and diluted the power of the states.
It is the states who created the federal government. The states are prime, not the other way around.

Brah...you are just peddling that "States Rights" myth, which was made up by White Supremacists to keep slavery legal

It’s amazing that people think putting already in place politicians—who can’t run the federal government or their own states effectively—into a room together with a Constitutional whiteboard is a good idea.
Nothing would be made better by a convention. Nothing at all.

Everything. There is literally no positive.
Making the Senate a smaller House with larger districts and longer terms was incredibly stupid and short sighted.
