I did the financially responsible thing for once with vehicles.

I have wasted a ton of money on vehicles. I almost did it again by going buy a new Suburban.

Instead, I traded in my Tundra for a Camry. I had 3 years of payments left on the truck. I could afford it but I felt it was unnecessary and wasteful.

I don't haul anything and I'm driving 70 miles a day. Gas is eating me alive at 12/mpg

I got almost what I paid for the truck new. I cut a check for the difference and now I have no car note.

I got a 2018 Camry XLE with 8,000 miles that will likely last me until Jesus comes.

I also reduced my personal expenses by $1000/mo between note, insurance and gas.

It was a tough step but I pretty much got a brand new car. I'm down to one car note for my wife.

So, if you see what looks like Mr. Incredible driving around in a Camry, honk your horn for financial responsibility.

I've been thinking of downsiIng to a maverick, because I like the idea of still being able to use a bed. But holy hell those things are marked up

Congrats! It's so hard for people to not take the first step.

Cash flow bump and will change your behavior. We haven't had a car payment in 9 years.

Nobody cares about what you're driving. Just think, do you recall the cars you've seen this last week? I don't

Good for you. What made you think you needed to drive a truck around before? Sport that camry proudly and buy your kids a camp

Went from a mid sized SUV for many many years to a 6 year old Hyundai Elantra about a year ago and love it. 16mpg to consistently over 40mpg now is pretty substantial with 50-75 miles driven daily

Everyone laughs at me for driving a Hyundai Sonata. I laugh every time their note comes out

Nice. This country has "normalized" luxury vehicles to the extent that its crippling many. I drive a 17 year old truck with 200k miles, and I hope to get another 200k out of it (its diesel). A new, replacement in kind truck would be $90k. Like you, I'd rather use that money to buy land somewhere.

I want to do something similar, but the car we’re still paying on is 0.9%. It’s financially better for me to keep that loan until it’s paid off

A lot of winning in this thread. Even Warren Buffet drives a used Buick.

If you’re a car guy or will actually get a lot of use out of your SUV/truck, then spending a fair amount on your vehicle starts to make sense.

Nicely done. The amount of wealth pissed away on vehicles by so many people is astounding.

Wife and I are both lawyers. We do well.
We were driving a 2008 and 2010 until this past year when a minivan was finally necessary. The 2008 will soon be replaced by sedan.

Keep the debt side of your balance sheet as low as possible and downturns become opportunities.

Over 225k combined gross and driving a 2007 Honda Accord pushing 300k miles and dropping oil but running great.

2015 Odyssey at 150k. Traded my F150 in for this when it became necessary. Rarely used it as a truck and the van can do 95% of what I used the truck (as a truck) for.

Will keep both until they just won’t any longer. I’m now considering just buying used from now on as well.

Love to hear it.

Cars are an ego trap for most people.

Point A to Point B SAFELY is all that matters.

I traded in my sports car for payoff (which was generous) and got my wife a modest Grand Cherokee for the family. I’m now driving her old car as my commuter.

My car used to be my identify but now an extra $600 in my savings account feels like a better identify.

I don't drive as much as I used to and my wife wanted a camper, so I bought a Tundra. I absolutely love it.

During my high mileage years, I had a '91 Civic, then a 2002 Civic.

When you are putting high mileage, there is no shame in getting a car that gets good mileage, with low maintenance/breakdown needs.
