The human foot is uniquely adapted to bipedal locomotion and has a deformable arch of variable stiffness. Intrinsic foot muscles regulate arch deformation, making them important for foot function. In this study we explore the hypothesis that normal daily activity in minimal footwear, which provides little or no support, increases foot muscle strength. Western adults wore minimal footwear for a six-month period (the "intervention" group). Foot strength, i.e., maximum isometric plantarflexion strength at the metatarsophalangeal joints, and foot biometrics were measured before and after the intervention. An additional group was investigated to add further insight on the long-term effects of footwear, consisting of Western adults with an average 2.5 years of experience in minimal footwear (the "experienced" group). This study shows that foot strength increases by, on average, 57.4% (p < 0.001) after six months of daily activity in minimal footwear. The experienced group had similar foot strength as the post intervention group, suggesting that six months of regular minimal footwear use is sufficient to gain full strength, which may aid healthy balance and gait.

I knew walking around the house and yard barefoot all these years was good for me

Been wearing my Vivos for a couple months now. Love them.

Sucks when I have to wear any other shoe.

My daily dress shoes at work are Vivo’s. I run and workout in Xero’s.

I wear the inov8 bare xf to workout in. I've got a pair of suede vivos I wear to work sometimes.

Y'all should check out the revivo website to get some recrafted vivos for cheaper

Yep. I work out in my Vivo's and do everything else around the house barefoot.

I've ordered every Vivo we have (my kids and wife also wear them) off of Revivo. All of the shoes look brand new when we get them and they are usually $20-$40 off.

Vivo's are definetly more stylish than Xero's. Although, Xero came out with some new shoes that look better for daily dress shoes.

Does Vivo not have a US distribution center?

Mine came all the way from the Netherlands and took like 3 weeks. Just curious.

Also does anyone have the all white ones? Any preferred method on cleaning them?

Once I switched to minimalist shoes, I never looked back. I tried a regular tennis shoe, and I felt like I was walking on a sponge and about to fall over.

I used to wear New Balance Minimus.

I bought a pair of Merrell Vapor Glove 5, or something like that, during Ida. I loved the feel of them, but they are not hardy at all and quickly fell apart.

I'm currently wearing Merrell Trail Glove 5, and I hate these shoes. The toe box is too small, and a cloth flap has come loose in the shoe which is annoying.

Do yall have any suggestions on a good, tough pair of minimalist shoes?

I don't think you can beat the quality of Vivobarefoot. I've worn most of the minimalist brands throughout the years, and they have been my favorite by far.

How is the sizing with vivo? I tried their sizing app and it recommended 10, but I’m almost always a 10.5 or 11 in every other shoe brand. I was leaning towards the 11.

I wear a 15 in most shoes outside of boots.

Their sizing app recommended 14s. I didn’t trust it and ordered both 14s and 15s. Sent the 15s back. The 14s fit great.

Same for me, around 2013. I started with Brooks Pure Connects and kept up with a series or two of those. But now, Brooks are just as clunky as anything else. It's really hard to find 0 or extremely minimal heeldrop...so now I just keep buying the same exact pair on eBay when I wear one out.

The other good thing about the Brooks was they looked cool and normal. These Vivos (to me) look a little too out there for daily wear in mixed company.

The Vivo sizing app is money. It put me in a size and a half smaller than what I’d normally wear, but I ordered them anyway and they fit perfect. Xero is about the same.

The most durable? Vivo’s trail shoe is a tank. I don’t trail run much, but I love that shoe. For the track or street, Xero’s are tougher. The soles on the Vivo wear more. Xero has a 5000 mile guarantee on the sole. Xero Prio would be the beefier street shoe. HFS is the lighter version of that which is my daily mileage shoe.

I have had my Prios for 2 years and they are still in great shape. They can really take a beating. I have a pair of Hanas and Aptos to kick around in. I haven't owned any other minimalist shoes so I can't speak about the other brands. All I can say is at least give Xeros a try.
