I guess that’s the risk you take traveling overseas
They knew not to let a bunch of drunk, foreign assholes commandeer their boat in a storm.

but I think people are more likely to sympathize with a kid who did something that ended his life while drinking or drunk.
What if he was driving a boat or car drunk?

IF, there was no Instagram, IF, there were no phone cameras, This would have never happened. Start a thread about swimming across the MS river and note how many PeePaws swam across it in the 1940’s, long before social media
I had a dumbass friend when we were about 19 who said he could swim through a culvert under a road at Grenada Lake in Mississippi. We just told him he was full of shite and he jumped in and started swimming through the culvert. About halfway through there was debris that he couldn’t get passed so he had to turn back and swim back out. Dumbass almost drowned because he said he could do it and we said “nu h-uh”. Kids do stupid shite for attention now for social media but we did some of the same stupid shite growing up

This reeks of teenager gossip full of half truths.
If a bunch of drunk 18 year olds tried to take away the controls of my boat I’d tell them to eat shite too.

It’s all on the kid that jumped. People can’t blame the boat crew. He jumped in the ocean at 9:30 PM off of a moving boat. You have to blame stupidity not the alcohol or boat crew.
Those kids couldn’t have handled that boat. It’s not a ski boat. It’s a totally different world handling a big slow vessel in open water.
The boy should have been better trained as in not to jump off of moving boats into the ocean at night.

Sad but true .
I dont think he was a bad kid.. he’s just a teenager who felt invincible and did a colossally stupid thing and, as mentioned earlier- many of us have done stupid things at that age, and even older.. The difference here is that he was not as lucky as we were, and it resulted in the end of his life.. i can think back to when i was a teen and college-aged and it’s a gotdam miracle i not only didn’t wind up dead, i never got so much as a dui.. i can rememeber one instance in particular when i had the ol ‘party while my parents were out of town’ thing, mixed together all the boos in the liquor cabinet then decided it’d be fun to put the top down on my father’s Mustang 5.0 convertible and take my friends for a joy ride down the dead end street behind our house , getting up to 90 mph then slamming the brakes before the dead end.. repeated 3 or 4 times with different friends in the car.. why should i be alive and not that kid in the Bahamas ? Life is just random that way .

Yes. I am lucky that I haven’t killed other's or myself in some of of the stupid things I’ve done.

The boy was on that liquid courage. He felt confident and wanted the attention. I feel for the family because they couldn’t find closure. But I doubt the employees are to blame

Don’t jump off of a perfectly good boat and this doesn’t happen.
It’s a “liberal” thing to say because it removes all accountability from the individual and punishes everyone else for the failure of one individual’s poor judgement.
Typical liberal mindset. Blame everything and everyone except the individual responsible.
And punish everyone as a result.

Because letting a bunch of drunk highschoolers take over a large boat in unfamiliar waters with hundreds of passengers would have been a great idea

I fail to see what makes you think wanting people on a boat to wear life jackets is a liberal thing to say.
I can’t explain it better than this.

Overregulation, taking away freedom of choice, and forcing businesses to comply all because a very slim a minority can’t take responsibility. So let’s make the majority who are responsible suffer.

It’s honestly ridiculous notion for adults to even wear life jackets on a party barge, much less a sunset cruise type boat.

Statistically it would save some lives. We wear seat belts by law (granted they probably save more lives).

Yes, and ones that think they can maneuver a boat like that because they’re used to driving their daddy’s wake boat on false river. Especially in bad weather. Here kid, take the reins.

Statistically wearing a helmet everywhere you walk and go would help save lives too

I agree with you certainly, but to be fair if there were 100s of high school kids there should have been one dad there with boating experience and with that many dads from Louisiana a good chance one had a captains license.
Very sad situation for everyone. Still blows my mind a large boat like that wouldn’t have a better MOB procedure.

I wonder if they went over safety procedures with everyone before setting sail. Surely so.

It’s the Bahamas not America
Rules are different
Lawyers would be lining up to sue if this was in America
Moral of the story do not take a senior trip out of the country
Another La group went to Cancun for sr trip Mexico is the last place I would send seniors
