Very sad, I don’t think people respect water enough.

I can see how people would have more sypathy for him due to him being so young and celebrating an accomplishment. It's not really that hard to understand.

I can see that too but why can’t you have sympathy for the teen who made a dumb mistake and climbed a building? This board is full of hypocrites, lol.

Sounds like what could be in the coming lawsuit for a payout.

quote:

The video I saw was a young man who apparently didn’t know the jumper. He was videoing them having fun and then he sees someone jump in the water. He’s nowhere near the side of the boat and there’s many people between him and the side. What do you want him to do? I’m sure in the 10 seconds of video, he assumed the guy was going to be ok and didn’t comprehend that he would die.

There are so many stories about people trying to save people in the water that end up with just more deaths. It’s never a good idea to go after them unless you absolutely know what the hell you are doing and have a damn good plan, the best option is to throw a life ring or something and get the boat stopped as fast as possible. Getting in the water is hardly ever a good idea. I’m not sure what people here wanted from the drunk arse people on the boat, them getting in the water is almost as stupid as jumping off it for a dare in the first place.

I thought this was satire at first, since Zachary Mayo is in fact the name of the Richard Gere character from the old movie An Officer and a Gentleman

Remember this story well. Was living in the region at the time.

As a kid our school taught these flotation techniques in school. Spent a weeks in the pool in PE class, just floating for the entire hour using your pants and shirt.

The guidance on whether to take your shoes off was mixed. On the one hand they can weigh you down so ditch them. On the other hand you will want them if you need to try to get across any type of coral or rocks to get ashore.

I'm not saying there aren't hypocrites on this board. Look, jumping off of cruise ship is risky and retarded, but I'm assuming alcohol was involved and many have done crap that could have ended badly while drinking. So I think more people are inclined to feel sympathetic for this kid.

Scaling the arch of a bridge to post it on social media seems like a more thought-out risk to take. It's sad for that kid's family too, but I think people are more likely to sympathize with a kid who did something that ended his life while drinking or drunk.

my nephew who was on the boat while this happened came back today. I talked to him and he said if the boat employees were well trained like people in the us would be that this would have never happened. apparently they didn’t know what to do in this situation and kids from louisiana who con boats tried to take control but they weren’t having it. I guess that’s the risk you take traveling overseas

SS is a fricking retard sometimes and I'll be the first to call him out on it.
But this time he dropped the hammer on the typical OT ideology. He's right.

Stupid is fricking stupid. I showed my kids(14-20 yrs old) the video and pleaded with them to NEVER do something this stupid. It's not a lake. It's not Crab Island during the day. It's the open sea at night during a storm.

This was 100% stupid and preventable. It scares the shite out of me.

fricking garbage. I have no first hand knowledge of what happened promises that Captain and his crew couldn’t distinguish the yelling from the laughter on a booze cruise. The kid jumped off on a $50 bet and lost. When will start taking responsibility for our own actions?

You can't arrest the person that dared him to jump overboard. I mean who hasn't had a friend dare them when young to do something as seemingly harmless as this was before what unfolded. I've had way more dares to do much more seemingly dangerous things. Unless he was pushed overboard, then I don't think anyone should be arrested.

It doesn't look like a cruise ship. It looks like a regular boat.

Still, with alcohol and boating you would think the booze cruise people would make them wear them to avoid situations like this.

What a liberal thing to say. Because 1 person out of tens of thousands who ride the boat took it upon himself to jump off the boat, we need to make sure everyone wears a life jacket.

I fail to see what makes you think wanting people on a boat to wear life jackets is a liberal thing to say. That's just wanting things like this to not happen
