My GPS says the rant is a product of their environment.

It makes sense, but why aren’t there more texas rangers fans?

It's not really surprising that the fans of the last two teams to win the series would be the most vocal.

TBS and the proximity of Houston to Louisiana is also at play. The TBS effect is real with the Braves. I grew up in Pittsburgh and there were more Braves and Cubs games broadcast than Pirate games, because of TBS and WGN. If I wanted to watch a baseball game when I was a kid, better than 70% of the time it was a Braves or Cubs game because they were always on.

And if you lived close enough to Atlanta you didn't even need cable to get TBS.

Yea like I told the other poster, I was waaaaay more forgiving of a water park crowd as a kid. Don’t think I could make it now.

Heavy southern/southeastern board. Very heavy Louisiana representation. Extremely heavy BR representation. Most grew up with Houston's local station being part of the initial Cablevision lineup in late 70s (thus, Astros games). Then TBS replaced them, hence, Braves fans. There are also a lot of Cubs fans because WGN was added to lineup in early/mid 80s.

South Louisiana is Astros country.

This site has a lot of Alabama fans and a ton of people that work at the Redstone Arsenal in Hutsville, AL for some reason. That’s Braves country.

Tbh, the main areas that I would guess posters here are from would be:
BR: Stros
Houston: Stros
New Orleans: Stros
Birmingham: Braves
Huntsville: Braves
Atlanta: Braves
Dallas: Rangers

In the 90s it was Astros/Barviz/Cubs on our regional sports networks in NOLA and BR. What is now Bally's SW flipped to the Rangers about a decade ago and the impact has been minimal if any because we can all find ways to watch the Stros regardless.

In Louisiana, the old folks are St. Louis Cardinal fans because their games could be heard on the AM radio here.

Kids from the 80’s grew up watching the Cubs on WGN and kids in the 90’s watched the Braves on TBS when they were pretty good.

Astros games were on the radio for a lot of baseball fans in Southwest Louisiana. Plus, Nolan Ryan back in the day, the Killer Bs and they have been pretty good as of late.

Rangers haven’t ever really been that good and aren’t on TV or radio much I’d imagine.

As a kid all the way through my 20s I was a baseball fan and proudly had first 19 channels then 59 channels and the Braves came on 160 times a year.

The Braves built a huge audience throughout the Southeast by being on TV. Now the Braves are moving to their own streaming service not carried by cable. They are going to have a tiny fan base in 30 years and not know why.

Making an assumption, but I don’t even think the Cardinals have more fans in Tennessee than the Braves. The Cardinals have a lot of national appeal but it seems to be West of St Louis

When were growing up we would take vacations to Houston to do AstroWorld, WaterWorld, NASA, and go to couple of games in the evenings

Yeah I left out AstroWorld in my original post. Shame on me but I did like the water park more. Kinda ironic, I loved waterparks then but think they are gigantic cess pools now.

My dad worked pipelines while I was growing up until probably '88 when he got a promotion and made it to the corporate office in H-town. I was in high school in Monroe then and graduated in '90 so my folks waited to make that move to Shangri la right after I got my diploma. We always did a week in Houston every Summer when the Astros were in town. We always did the zoo and sometimes the Galleria as a break from the Astroworld complex. Never went to NASA. Kinda curious if everyone stayed at that hotel right by the Astrodome?

There are so many Braves fans here because their parents were smarter than all of the Cubs fans parents in the area. They watched TBS instead of WGN.

As for Astros fans... we only started congregating here in 2017, before that we were merely going to Tractor Pulls, MotoX and Mudwrasslin at Caberet for our entertainment. Now we stick around just to piss off the fake-outrage "Look at them Cheatstros banging trashcan." crowd.

The Yankees were broadcast on WGSO in New Orleans for years. Pelicans were a AA farm team in the late 50's.

Rangers fan checking in. Nolan Ryan was there when I started getting interested in baseball. All Nelson Cruz had to do was catch a ball.

They are the two closest cities to here and the Braves had the national Superstaion WTBS that showed the Braves every day here for many years.

For me - as a kid the Braves were on TBS almost every day. Part of our base cable package in North Louisiana.

So I've been a life-long fan.

I went to Fulton County Stadium, in the 90's... Turner Field a number of times in the late 90's. And last summer we took in 3 games at Truist Park.
