Coming out of HS and we were all so excited he picked us over Bama.

Does he finally break out after underperforming for two years?

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

He has never looked like a safety to me. Too small

It’s not quite that simple. Some guys take more time to adjust to college play. Some never adjust. Grant Delpit is an example of one who developed late.

You must be thinking of someone else. Grant Delpit was a stud the moment he set foot on campus. He started 10 games as a freshman.

Delpit was only here for 3 seasons and was statically better his sophomore season.

would be really nice, b/c we are going to need someone to take a big step forward, out of our safeties, but i really don't think he has the football IQ to do that... athletically gifted, but dumb as frick.... guess we'll see if time in the system has gotten him better equipped, but i'm not holding my breath

I think he is closer than a lot of people realize.

He is often right where he needs to be. He just needs to start getting his head around to make a play on the ball.

He got a lot better towards the end of last year, I’m in wait and see mode with him. He also might be better at FS and move Brooks down to Nickel, it’ll be interesting to see how the safeties are deployed this year

Really bad comp. Delpit was a star the minute he got on the field.

Jacoby Stevens is another. But he never matched expectations.

Yep, an awful comparison. Delpits So. Season was one of the best seasons a DB has ever had at LSU. Meanwhile the next play Ryan makes will be the first.

Grant Delpit is an extremely bad comparison
. He was a stud as soon as he stepped foot on campus all the way until he was drafted into the NFL after just 3 years. He started for most of his true freshman season and was very good. During his sophomore campaign, he was an All-American.

JaCoby Stevens might be a better comparison. He was supposed to be the big stud at safety, but Delpit surprised everyone by being flat out better than Stevens.

Stevens eventually found his best role as a hybrid safety and linebacker later on as he developed and he made himself into a decent college football player at least.

There’s really no comp between Stevens and Ryan outside of Stevens finding his spot. He had 3-4 inches of size at least plus probably 40 pounds on Ryan. If anything, you hope Ryan can become what Dwayne Thomas became for our defense this year

Eh. Damone Clark, Duke Riley, deebo Jones, and Kevin minter say hey. They didn’t do shite their first 3 years then were senior studs. I realize those are all LBs though, it may be more cut and dry with DBs. I have hopes Sage will have a big year, the experience and talent is there. Or he might just be another 5 star from a small school that played against inferior talent his whole life. We’ll see.

He’s had different schemes the last 2 years, gone through 2 different position coaches, this is first time he will have been in the same system for more then 8 months, I actually think he’ll take a step forward

Eh. You might wanna revisit some of these guys' careers.

As for Sage, he had some injury issues his true freshman year and I thought looked ok last year. There's still time.

Insanity is a bunch of slob bodied old fricks believing that 19 and 20 year old players can't improve and are as good as they will ever be at something.

Why don't yall try to pick up an activity and work to improve at it and see how lo g you keep improving.
