Interesting article on how Jay Johnson MIGHT handle the pitchers down the stretch. We actually saw some of this last season.

Advocate rag

Left-hander Javen Coleman could be the Bobby Dalbec of this LSU team.

“The postseason is a little different because you deploy guys somewhat differently,” Ferrin said. “They need to keep building (Javen) Coleman's innings because he potentially gives them an option to start, which could theoretically put (Ty) Floyd in a position where he can be a fireman. Maybe you want him to be available to come in the fifth inning of a game to lock it down to the end.”

I’m all for whatever gets us to Omaha! In Jay I trust, he certainly knows more than some of these other idiots who think they are experts on the “issues” like tackyretard

You trust the baseball coach over a bunch of unknown random folk on the internet? That’s a bold take.

Bobby Dalbec was a starter (2 way player) and according to this probably could have made it to the majors as a pitcher.

Will we seen Skenes bat or catch? Now that’s something interesting to ponder.

“All of us went to play pro ball in some capacity. I consider myself a better college pitcher, but Kevin Ginkel made it to the big leagues, Bobby Dalbec as a hitter, but I think he could be a big-league pitcher if he tried to,” Bannister said. “We had some prospects and a mix of older college arms. It’s nothing like what Jay’s got going on now.”

Coleman could be the Caleb Gilbert of the 2023 season.

No. Why would you do this?

You’re going to try to extend one guy when another has proven he can get you 7 innings?

Not a chance in hell I want Floyd as a "fireman" in Omaha.

We need two 7 inning starters and that's that.

only if you lose or Skenes gets injured would you do this IMO..

Hurd could be the fireman but he is limited as would Coleman be because of their recovery.

Floyd's slow starts and propensity for giving up deep flies (HRs or Sacs), but ability to settle down and go deep in a game make him more suited as a starter than a reliever in my opinion

Neither Hurd nor Coleman can be a multiple innings, rubber arm guy if they were to get into a losers bracket at Omaha. Just my opinion.

Cooper may still end up being valuable down the stretch.

While the results haven’t been there the last two outings, it’s pretty clear he’s finding his form.

It would be cool if a scenario played out where Skenes is finished pitching in Omaha and got an AB.

I want him pitching the final game if it were coming down to a winner take all. Don’t think he will take a risk in an ab but if there was some weird scenario and LSU was out of catchers and needed a sub, all gloves are off. Jones could catch and someone else play first but man, I’m gonna be Skip and play my best guys no matter what in Omaha.

Hell, Skenes could relieve like Coleman and McDonald. Who knows

I think the article is a misreading of what happened that season. Dalbec was moved into the starting rotation because he was a better pitcher than Ming. It wasn’t because Johnson needed Ming in a different role. That just became the best use of Ming when he was no longer starting. He just had 3 starters better than Ming. More than likely he waited until late in the season to insert Dalbec in the rotation because of his two-way status. None of this has any relevance to LSU’s pitching roster. Floyd isn’t moving out of the rotation because LSU doesn’t have 3 better options for the rotation.

I’d rather use Coleman in long relief than Floyd. You would waste Floyd in that role, using him for five innings when he can go seven.
