Literally the worst pain of my life since Saturday. Pain so bad I had to dig out the percocets from two surgeries ago and wash them down with bourbon.

I beg my way into the dentist this morning. He does his thing and says I have a badly cracked molar. He is sending me to an endodontist to determine whether the tooth can be saved. This will take time, more pain, and another appointment. If it can be saved, he'll do root canal. If it can't, I will then be sent to an oral surgeon who will extract the tooth on some even further distant TBD date. frick dental pain, man.

I'm pretty sure that 30 years ago, my dentist did all that shite. You got one bill and were usually good to go with no issues. It's the pussification of dentistry.

Most endodontists make a good living fixing general dentists' screw ups. You should thank him.

I had the same. Broken tooth that throbbed day and night because the nerve was exposed. They couldn’t see me for two days and by the time I got there he couldn’t pull it because it was infected. And I guess he thought I was bsing about the pain because he jerked on it with one of their tools and I almost jumped out of the chair. Thankfully he prescribed me a few pain pills that would put me to sleep. I can tell you days later when he finally pulled it the pain was gone instantaneously.

Same thing happened to me. Cracked molar, unbearable pain. Went in and he referred me to get a root canal. I told him to just pull it and I'll deal with it later(very back top molar) and he was like "Wellllll...we don't like to pull teeth unless we have to.

Went to another dentist a few days later and he pulled it, no issue.

Went through the exact same type of thing about 10 years ago, got the dentist to come in on a Sunday morning. After the same sort of thing I need to send you to X then X etc I literally begged him to pull it I would just get an implant, I hadn't been able to sleep since Thursday night. Then the roots were too deep for him to do it. So off to the oral surgeon Monday morning and back on Tuesday for the procedure. None of the pain meds they gave me even touched the pain. As soon as I woke up all was well with the world. It may have been the happiest moment of my life.

I think they get a kickback from the endodontist.

He probably doesn’t have the technology to see if the fracture goes all the way through the root. And if he doesn’t, you don’t want him doing the root canal on you.

For a molar, I’ll take the endodontist dealing with that any day over a general dentist. My endo did a root canal on a molar in less than 30 minutes. It was glorious.

New dentist. I went for a 2nd opinion on my tooth pain, he said jt was a slight crack and yanked that bitch out the same day.
