How many of you remember the show, Burt Sugarman’s Midnight Special that aired on NBC on Friday night after The Tonight Show from 72-81? It was much watch TV during the 70s after hanging out with friends!
Just a few samples of the great bands and singers who appeared on the show:
Listen To The Music - Doobie Brothers
Do You Feel Like We Do - Frampton
Anytime - Journey
You Make Lovin Fun - Fleetwood Mac
Do It Again - Steely Dan

Anyone know if John Foggerty or CCR performed “Midnight Special” on Midnight Special?

They've started putting up full eps on their youtube page including the pilot hosted by John Denver (sad irony there).

CCR broke up by the time the Midnight Special began.. and I can't find any mentions of Fogerty on the show, so I'd say no.

Sexy Stevie Nicks with the best taped performance of Rhiannon…

Remember the show very well. I also remember during the 70's Mexican loco weed was $15-20/oz, six pack of beer was $1.99, and you could get a Double Quarter pounder meal for under $5.

That show was a Friday night ritual for me as a young teen. Used to record my favorites on the VCR.

This blew young me away when I saw it way back when
Proud Mary - Ike and Tina Turner | The Midnight Special
I also remember Don Kirshner's Rock Concert series that ran from 73-81 in syndication.
Bad Company Live on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert ( 1974 ) in 60FPS
The Police Live 1980 Don Kirshner's Rock Concert Complete
REO Speedwagon April 27, 1974 Don Kirshner's Rock Concert
ETA: I just wanted to add that Gary Richrath, REO's lead guitarist from 1970-1989, is criminally underappreciated by the general rock and roll public

Helen Reddy frequently performed on the show, and was often a host

As Helen Reddy said, it's midnight in Middle America, and Middle America is where it's at.

Agreed. The guy was a guitar god when he was young … but boy he fell hard in his later years and passed away a few years ago. Way too young.

I never gave this song a second thought until I saw them do it live on Midnight Special. It rocks.

Just What I Needed
One of my faves.
My music heroes always seem to make me feel better about myself. I always thought I had terrible form and technique playing bass. Then I saw a video with Geddy Lee showing and talking about his, and though I had only listened to his playing, I play exactly like him. If it’s good enough for Geddy, well.
I play bass and sing Just What I Needed. Look at Ben Orr in the video slyly taking peaks down at his fretboard to make sure he’s in the right place. Makes me feel less self conscious seeing the actual artist do the same thing I do.
