Also, in t he post season the host team will be the home team in all games. This rule has needed to be changed for a loooooong time. It should be one of the perks of being a host.

I was amazed when they changed the rule that they still got it wrong in my opinion. The higher seed should be the home team provided that the higher seed in the regional has fewer or the same amount of regional losses as the opponent.

Let's say the top seed in the regional comes from the losers bracket to the regional final against an undefeated 2 seed. Shouldn't the 2 seed be the home team in game 1? If the one seed forces a winner take all game, then the one seed should be the home team.

Isn’t playing at your field, sleeping in your own bed, having your normal routine, and playing in front of a 95% partisan crowd in your favor enough?

I’ve never had an issue with the host team having to play a game or two as the “visiting team” as the regional plays on. Game 2, I’m good with the rule change to the better seed being the “home team”. But as the tournament moves on, one team shouldn’t necessarily be forced to be the “visiting team” all weekend.

I have no issue with allowing the host team their usual dugout. Moving across the field just because “the home team sits in the 3B dugout seems unnecessary.”

I know it's been answered, but here's a picture.

Auburn is definitely on the 3rd base side.

Seems harsh. I was just laughing at the fact that people came in just to say they didn’t know anything.

No, it's not.

So you think LSU should be the "home" team in one of the games vs Auburn this weekend. How absurd does that sound? And as for the #4 seed in a regional being the visiting team all weekend, maybe they should strive to be a higher seed and then they could be a home team in a game or two.

Agreed.

When LSU plays at home (except for post season) they will be in the 1st base dugout

They changed that rule like 18 years ago

Where a home team puts its dugout is its own decision in baseball in 2023. Most of it has to do with how the stadium itself is set up and what is most convenient for the home team to get to and from the clubhouse and other facilities.

If 18 out of 30 is the correct number in MLB, that’s only 60 percent, which is more happenstance than true “home team always sits here.” For instance, the Indians home dugout used to be on the first base side in Cleveland Stadium, now it’s on the third base side at their current stadium. Again, probably more about convenience than about “let’s sit here just because …”

A large factor in which side they choose is often (but not always) the side of the field that is in the sun. For a ballpark that faces northeast, that will be the 3rd base side, for a ballpark that faces southeast, that will be the first base side. Sometimes, however, teams will take the dugout on the sunny side of the field if other logistical factors (like location of the clubhouse) make this more convenient (which is the case at the Box, I believe).

18 MLB home teams are in first base dugout. Biggest influence is probably direction the field faces and home team taking the shady dugout when the heat idex is 110 degrees
