Cards fans, does Marmol make it through May?

Watching the last place Cardinals blow a lead to the Angels as the fans boo. And they just said on MLB big inning that a loss would mean the worst start to the season since I think the 80's.
Can't imagine he has that long of a leash with how last season ended, right?

I can hardly remember a game where we gave up fewer than 5 runs. Not sure if that’s directly his fault but holy shite we’re bad

My word, but that isn't a very classy thing for the classiest fans in baseball to do

Convince me Yadi won't be their manager next year.

He doesn’t want to be the manager. He wants to be in PR making records and running his basketball team.

I know this will not go over well here, but there is a reason why Willson Contreras was not retained by the Cubs. I know Cards fans, (The best in baseball), don’t want to hear it, but look at the pitching numbers by both teams last year and now. Ross didn’t like how he called games and he can’t frame for shite. But hey, you guys got us.

They have too much talent in that lineup and will get hot at some point but they have really struggled to develop quality pitching and have failed to add impact arms the last few years. It shows greatly. Their staff didn’t exactly light the world on fire last year (or the year before) and they haven’t added to it in any meaningful way.
They have an oddly constructed roster with a lot of really good corner infield and outfield types (including some very young talented ones like Gorman, Walker etc) but I’m not sure how they haven’t dealt some of that for quality starting pitching in the last few years with Goldschmidt and Arenado entrenched.
No serious contender is trotting out the rotation they rolled into this year with
All that to say they can blame the manager and probably will but I don’t see how any of that is his fault

Where? What talent? I keep hearing this. They have 2 aging superstars off to slow starts (mostly Arenado) & Gorman who will be a beast if he ever figured out how not to K 40% of his ABs. Every other bat in that lineup is overrated &/or has never done poo. Like the Laron Landry of MLB, Tyler O’Neill lol

They were third in the NL in runs scored last year and third in OPS. Edman, Contreras, Nootbar, Donovan, Gorman are all quality MLB players. The worry I’m sure is that most of them are performing like it and they still are not winning. The pitching isn’t good but it won’t be this bad all year, it’s more mediocre than terrible. They will probably finish around 500 with the hole they’ve dug themselves though.

Gorman is the only one with an ops above .750

Edman’s OPS was 813 coming into tonight and Nootbar’s was 777. You also don’t need to have an OPS over 750 to be a good baseball player. Their position player group doesn’t fit well together but is talented and clearly not the big picture problem with that team.

They’re all average players outside of Gorman

Goldy and Nolan says get the frick!!!
And as far as Marmol, something needs to fricking happen

Define “average”. A roster with 3 star level types and then a bunch of 2-3 win type players like them is easily good enough to contend for a championship

Really? Lol. We’re talking about the rest of the cast. Nobody is questioning their pedigree. I don’t think either puts up a year like last year ever again though. They getting up there in age

Pick any of outside of the 3. That’s an average mlb player. I’m just responding to the “too talented not to hit” comment. I don’t get that. O’Neill is the only one if that group that’s ever done squat & he’s been hot garbage for quite some time now

No, every move he makes sucks.
Coming into the year MLB.com had them the #5 offense in baseball.
He and org handled Walker wrong, he handled O'Neill wrong earlier in year, removing Helsley from closer so quick.
Could go on and on.
I'm tired of internal managerial candidates from the minors. They've all sucked.

So Nootbaar - 2.7 WAR last year
Edman - 5.7 (probably an outlier, but not hard to see him putting up 3-4 yearly)
Donovan - 2.7
Carlson - 2.6
Gorman playing out of position like he is probably isn't much more than 2-3 WAR type, which was my argument about holding on to him and the other corner types
Contreras has been a 2.5-3.5 WAR player his whole career basically
These are the types of players that fill out the rest of the lineup card on any contender
That plus two superstars isn't much different than the 2019 Nats or the 2021 Braves. There's key difference between those clubs and the Cardinals of this year (or last year) and it ain't the the group of players we are talking about.

Well at least Cards fans will have to worry about them forgetting how to score in the postseason.
I can't understand how the offense is this horrid.
