Yes, but it’s because he has diabetes and insulin gets out of whack. Happened 3x so far

What brand of flea/tick stuff you using? Start there.

Already asked the vet about this. The flea collar she wears is the same one the vet sells and the amount of seizure cases linked to this collar “is on par with why they have to put certain side effects on bottles of aspirin.”

But that’s what she wears.

My terrier takes phenobarbital twice a day and that’s cured it.

I breed and own Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs and epilepsy is a real concern for that breed. I don't think the risk is higher than "normal" compared to other breeds, but it is on the rise.

Yes, older 12 year old dog just diagnosed with Cushings disease last month. Taking Vetoryl and so far the seizures have been almost eliminated. Breaks my heart seeing my buddy like that but we’re making progress. We’ve gone to a bland cooked chicken diet supplemented with rice. Am checking on possible supplements at Vet visit Friday.

Around the same time he developed canine cognitive issues Alzheimer’s like. I’m doing everything we can and processing my grief knowing he’s only got another year or maybe less. It’s tough, my favorite dog of our three. We’ve been through a lot together.

Good luck with yours.

Yes. Stage 4 heart failure.

That wasn’t seizures. They were simply passing out.

I just lost a dachshund this past March with the same thing. She was on vetmedin for three years. She would pass out and just flop on her side. The vetmedin helped it till it got to end stage.

I had a female Border collie that had 3 or 4 while about 1-2 yrs old and never found a cause. She didn't have any as she got older and lived to 15 yrs old.

Definitely see if it’s related to any medications or neurological in nature, but I recently read about a certain scent in those wall plug-in scent diffusers causing seizures in dogs. Not saying this is the case for your pup, just wanted to pass along the info in cause you struggle to find a cause.

Yes. Our corgi is 3. He had a full on seizure on Easter. It was his first one. Almost exactly like what you described. We took him to the Vet the next day for tests. His bloodwork came back fine. He does has serious anxiety. So we put him on anxiety medication. It seems to be working so far for helping him calm down.

Our cockapoo has seizures. Usually last a minute or two of confusion, stumbling around, and either poops/pees or throws up once it's done. We haven't put him on medication because the vet said epileptic seizures (what he has) do not cause damage, but if we were to put him on medication, we'd never be able to take him off and it would severely alter his mood. He only has one every 4ish months or so, so it's not extremely common

I'm waiting on blood test results to come back(should be today or tomorrow) but they went ahead and prescribed phenobarbital for the seizures.

Update: blood results came back normal. So Epilepsy is the most likely cause now.

We had two pups, different breeds, at the same time that both had epileptic seizures. One was a dachshund and the other a chihuahua. Neither was impacted to any significant degree by the epilepsy. The seizures were always scary, but other than a bit of lethargy both were fine within a matter of an hour or so.

The chihuahua lived to a ripe old age of 17, we think....hell, the years blur. The dachshund had to be put down due to cancer, but lived a great life before that with no problems other than the occasional seizure. The chihuahua seemed to have had fewer as he got older. He was a tough one who refused to let the vet that he hated put him down when the time came. He died on his own terms on the way to the vet's office.

The fact that this medication poses enough risk to the liver and kidneys to warrant a blood test every so many months is a bit of a worry as well.
