Wife and I are both late 50’s We we’re both brought up southern Baptist. I would go but found it boring. I hated myself for it. Then we went to a non-denominational church in Ponchatoula, The Missions. It was fantastic, they have an early service so you have the rest of your day. I really got the message every time I went. Well we quit going and my wife wants to go back southern Baptist. I just can’t , when I go I’m just looking at my watch

I think even the most dedicated Christians have times when they don’t want to go.
Maybe they’re sick.
Maybe they’re tired.
There plenty of other reasons.

All the time. That is why I go to 4:00 on Saturday. If the tigers are playing Saturday afternoon then I usually go at 5:30 on Sunday afternoon

Internet church service can be your friend. No travel time, stay in your underwear, get your prayers done.

I haven't been to a church service since 2008

I can’t imagine finding the time to go to church weekly. I haven’t been in 25+ years and won’t start soon.

Sounds like you go to a bad church. Find a better one.

I’m an atheist and don’t go to church, although I do enjoy touring cathedrals, mosques, and temples, and have been to quite a few around the world.
However, if I truly believed all the Jesus nonsense and didn’t have a problem with God’s way of doing things (which I would but if I didn’t), I would be a lot more passionate than nearly all Christians I know.
Do you guys realize that you believe our lifespans are only about 75 years and that we (and everyone who’s ever existed) are supposed to spend trillions upon trillions upon trillions of years in either Heaven or Hell afterwards? That’s what you believe.
And what do you do? Waste time trying to pay for nice houses, cars, going to watch SEC football games, etc. You guys should be running around the world trying to save souls like firefighters in a burning building. But few Christians I know have even been to frickin’ Jerusalem to see the origins of the religion that they put at the forefront of their lives - ahead of their spouses and children, or so they say. Some might go on a brief mission trip here and there, but few really sacrifice their comforts to spread the gospel. And they can make those damn national championship games.
I am very unimpressed with the Christian from the Bible Belt. Most believe what they do because it’s what they were exposed to at a young age and there isn’t much passion beyond doing what is socially expected and seeking comfort in believing they will exist forever.

Hebrews 10:25 (NASB95): not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
I don’t go every Sunday. Most, but we miss occasionally- due to other events. It’s not a sin to miss church. Just don’t make it a habit. And beware of your reasoning/attitude towards church. Read your Bible daily. Pray constantly. Keep God at the forefront of your mind.
Church attendance is not about salvation- it’s about preservation. It’s about feeding your spirit and surrounding yourself with like minded people who are seeking a common goal; building each other up in the faith of our Lord, Jesus Christ. If that’s not happening at your church, you need to figure out if the problem is the church- or you.

When I was growing up I was forced to go to a Southern Baptist Church where everybody dressed up, they sang old boring hymns and the preacher sometimes preached about things that made you uncomfortable. I got out of there as soon as I turned 18. Funny thing, As I've gotten older, I find myself drawn back to that style of worship I once hated, but it's hard to find any more. People dress like they're on the way to the golf course afterward (or even to the fishing hole). The music is like a bad nightclub entertainer's idea of what church should be. The sermon is either feel good platitudes, politics, or both.
I'm sure churches that worship in the old ways still exist, but they're hard to find.

FYI, for those who attended churches that have a "tithing" system and you do actually tithe...the 10% you give is supposed to come before taxes. That means before Uncle Sam takes federal, FICA, and state taxes. Before insurance and 401K's. Not after you pay private school tuition, mortgage, car notes etc.
Just remember, God gets his before the government does. In the words of a wise pastor one Sunday, " if you don't pay taxes, you go to jail....you don't pay your tithes, you go to hell!"

Yep. Every Sunday for over 50 years now. Still haven't been to a Sunday service in my life.
