Selling Boat by Consignment

I'm thinking about selling my boat in a couple of weeks after I make a few last bream fishing trips to Lake Verret. Don't really want to be bothered with doing it myself and was considering consignment. Does anyone have any experience with any of these places? I know they have The Boat Yard in Marrero are there any others? There used to be one in Gonzales that sold a boat for me years ago but don't know if it's still open. Thanks for any info.

Yes, it really depends on what type of boat you have. The group I worked with took 18% because they handled the calls/deal/transportation. The price of the boat will likely dictate the number of calls and if it is a nice boat I wouldn’t pursue consignment unless it is located outside of the city you live in.
***”nice” being above 75k.

My boat is a 2012 19ft War Eagle. It's probably worth about $10K.

Just list that thing on FB marketplace. Price it right and it will sell.

Not sure what Davinci took off of mine. I told them what I wanted for it and I guess they listed it over that amount and took the difference. So I got my full selling price. A baw on here bought it.

I don't even do Facebook and don't want to create an account and have people calling me. Davinci sounds pretty good though. I might give them a call tomorrow. I don't mind giving them 20% to save me the trouble.

I sold mine through the boat yard and I know a few other people that have. I just dropped it off and they eventually gave me a check. It was really simple.

About how long did it take to sell?

Dang… I’ll take it for $8K if it’s really worth it to save you the trouble.

Not sure about selling but they will definitely lie to a buyer

I would probably let it go for that. It’s a real nice boat and runs great but it has an 115 Evinrude Etec on it and since Evinrude went out of business it is less desirable to a lot of people. Paid $14,500 about 3 years ago for it. I thought I would use it more just didn’t happen and sits in my carport unused.

Post it on Facebook Marketplace or a Facebook group for the boat manufacturer and it'll be gone in a few days time with check/cash in hand.
I posted a pic of my Blazer in a Blazer group one time and a guy from LA saw it and asked if it was for sale. Guy showed up days later with cash to take her home.
Guys on Facebook are always looking for boats to buy, wouldn't hurt to make a post for it and see if you get any bites within a few weeks time before handing over $2k for a boat shop to do minimal work

You leaving a lot of money on the table with consignment. I've been pondering selling mine and getting something a little bigger but I don't want to be out of a boat.

I do this type of thing on the side for older folks who don't like to mess with facebook or selling. If you end up not bringing it to one of these shops, let me know.
We can work something out!

I definitely fall in this category….older guy who doesn’t do Facebook and doesn’t want to go to a lot of trouble trying to sell. I’ll let you know if I decide to go that way. Thanks.

It took like 5 or 6 weeks from the time I dropped it off but it took them maybe a week to clean it up and post pics and stuff.
To leastbays point I’m not sure if I would buy a boat there unless I felt super confident in what I was looking at. I think the nature of the consignment stuff is they have some really nice stuff and some absolute junk. They are really just assembling like 100s of used boats for you to check out in one place, I would still approach it with the same level of diligence I’d put into buying a used boat from a stranger. Now if they lied, that sucks.

Fuel tank in a boat had gas so old it wouldn't combust They kept saying they ran it last week. The salesman didn't even bother to make the appointment to run the boat. He left. Was near impossible to find anyone else to help me run it. That's when we found out the gas was years old even though they kept saying they just ran it.

That sucks. I could imagine something like that happening.
