Property tax complaining is getting very old... My property taxes are half what Id pay in income tax in another state. Im considering a move so have done all the calculations.

Exactly. My property tax has gone up but

-so has my property value
-my kids can walk to a top rated elementary school
-there are three amazing, clean parks in our neighborhood to use
-really nice pool and splash pad
-low crime
-I’ve gotten raises at work and not taxed any extra on them

the best part? if I want to lower your property tax burden, I can move to a cheaper house.

In income tax states you wouldn’t lower your burden by taking less income, you are penalized for success with no added value to you

ETA: I will admit property taxes aren’t perfect, it does suck for older fixed income folks who have houses paid off and don’t want to move and the area around them raises value and their taxes increase. It’s not fair, but again at least they then have appreciation in their property.

It’s renters who really get screwed, their rent rises without getting the value out while the landlord does

I love how, in a lot of people’s and particularly progressive people’s minds, the only freedom many care about is the freedom to smoke pot, yet they are completely fine with federal and state government dictating economic restrictions, private property restrictions, gun ownership restrictions, and religious restrictions

No, we need informed and educated populace that gives a shite about local elections first, state elections second, and the federal government to frick right off with anything to do with inside the states.

I lived Dallas area for about 8 yrs. Texas is around top 5 highest property tax and home owner insurance rates in the nation. Offsets the no income tax status.

Property Tax bill was $23k.

Tarrant County isn’t nearly as rough as the GCISD tax bill.

No, it doesn't. I know where your top Google search led you for your "top five" claim, but it's not accurate in the least. I could have moved 1/2 a mile from my old house and cut my property tax bill by 30% by being in a different municipal utility district (MUD, which seems to be a Houston thing.)

I looked at property valuation increases in Dallas five years ago, and was stunned to see increases of 0%, 1%, .5%, etc., while I was enduring attempted 10% increases in the middle of tens of thousands of people being laid off in Houston. At least the people vote in the moronic tax assessors that do this stuff. And Fort Bend County has the problem of anytime there is the word "education" attached to any ballot measure, the Asians, Venezuelans and weak white women knee-jerk approve it "because the tax rate won't change." No shite, but when the assessment district claims my house went up 40% in value in a single year (the assessor you idiots voted for), then your taxes explicitly are going to increase a substantial amount.

At least our money stays mostly close to home, OP.

This is a totally mis-timed post, considering property taxes were due to be paid in TX almost three months ago.
