That's not saying much. Blue Bell's quality really isn't all that great. It gets a lot of love because it's what people in the South grew up eating, but it's really nothing special.

Never understood the love for BlueBell. It's ok, but nothing special. Publix store brand or Friendly's is better and often cheaper. Mayfield's is better too.

Now, Tillamook is better than all of those. It's very good.

Tillamook is better in ingredients used and the ice cream is just ok, and Blue Bell is meh.

Best store bought I have had is called Giffords out of New England area.

Tillamook is a premium ice cream. There are super-premium ice creams that cost about the same for a pint as Tillamook and Blue Bell cost for a 1/2 gallon. It's hard to compare Haagen Dazs and Graeters with Tillamook and Blue Bell.

Tillamook is excellent for what it is. Fresh ice cream is always the best. That is why ice cream tastes so much better right when you open it vs after it has been open a few days. If you want to try Tillamook ice cream at it's best, go to the Tillamook Cheese Factory in Tillamook, OR, if you ever get a chance and get an ice cream cone. You get the feeling that they made the ice cream with milk they got from a cow yesterday. Have lunch while you're at it. The cheese samples are good, too. Interesting place.

FYI - Tillamook does smell like a dairy town, though.

I tried Tillamook for the first time a couple months ago, and I prefer it over Blue Bell.

Is Häagen-Dazs "super premium"? I feel like nobody really talks about it anymore and I almost always see the pints on sale around here.

I think it goes back to when it was only available in TX and how it still is more regional.

Kinda like Coors not getting licensed to sell east of the MS.

Haagen Dazs has 14-16% butterfat.

Tillamook has 12-14%.

That is the difference between the super premium and the premium. The Super premium is denser and creamer.

Wild take. Tillamook makes trash ice cream. On par with store brands in the PNW.

Tillamook is cheap as heck here. Like 4 bucks for 1.75 qt. Blue Bell is like 7 for a 2 qt.

Tillamook update..

I probably shouldn't be revealing a limited honey hole. But, it may help move product and keep it as a permanently stocked item..

Calandro's has Tillamook Ice Cream Sandwiches in stock, in Salted Caramel(their best one..best marriage of ice cream flavor to cookie wafer), Chocolate Mudslide(good too), Mint, and Strawberry.

Blue Bell is a classic marketing study in how you can have a product that’s full of chemicals and artificial ingredients, a Lysteria outbreak that killed people…. and still have unwavering brand loyalty.
