Mark McGwire's 162 game average for homeruns is 50.

Ruth - 46
Bonds - 41
Aaron - 37

McGwire finished his career with 583 homeruns, 179 short of Bonds, but Bonds played 10 full seasons more than Mcgwire.

Bonds plate apperances 12,606
McGwire plate apperances 7,660

To bad he wasn’t close to the others you mentioned as an all around player.

So, HA had tons more at bats, and Mac and bb cheated with steroids to come close to what ruth did in the 20's... after spending several seasons as a pitcher.

Smh.
Ruth hit more Homer's than entire teams.
The records may have fallen, but the dominance is still king.

Would like to add, McGwire played most of his career in the Oakland Coliseum which is the worst ballpark to hit homeruns in. Also 49 Hrs in his rookie season all natural.

TIL pitchers weren't gearing up in the 90s.

Elaborate on your statement. Counter with your own statement as to why McGwire isn't the Goat.

You can't compare guys from that era to anybody else. It was just different. It was a hell of a lot of fun while it lasted. Even with all the technology of today to help hitters they still aren't at the levels of 1998

I think Bonds playing 10 more seasons is why his 162 game average is lower

But McGwire average: .263
Bonds average: .298

McGwire strikeouts: 1596
Bonds strikeouts: 1539

McGwire OBP: .394
Bonds OBP: .444

McGwire SLG: .588
Bonds SLG: .607

It is not even close who was the better hitter

JR was my favorite player growing up. I would stay up every night to watch sportscenter to see if he hit any HRs that day.

The good days when ESPN was all about sports and the internet was barely a thing and hadn't ruined a lot of things yet.
