So breaking down and getting a in home nanny for the summer. I am in need of a in home camera system that can be linked to my phone. Anyone have recommendations on one that won't break the bank and I can set up myself?

A relative gave me their old Arlo home base with 4 cameras. App works fine for me. It’s over 5 years old and still works just fine.

As to how good a brand Arlo is, I don’t know.

I run a Lorex system with a local DVR and 11 camera (7 external, 2 garage and 2 inside). I’ve been quite happy with it.

I’m not sure what the best answer is, but I will say be careful which ones you buy. You want one with a well-developed ecosystem.

Many options but I highly suggest whatever you go with you get one that the cameras are hard wired power. If you go with battery operated cameras they won’t record 24/7 and you will be replacing the batteries often.

I use Eufy tilt and pan cameras to monitor my 8 year old non verbal son. You can plug them in and move them anywhere or mount them if you need to. The motion following is pretty good or you can make them focus on one spot and move them with your phone. They take micro SD cards but you don't need them if you don't want to record. You can add as many as you want to the app since they don't require a home base to work. They truly turn 360 before you reach the turn limit.

Best part, they are like $40 from Amazon

I just did lots of research and purchased a system last weekend. I went with Eufy. I purchased three 4k outdoor cameras that are solar powered. Also, the video doorbell and the base station hard drive that allows for storage and access to video without using The Cloud or any paid subscription.

I have had the Ring doorbell camera, Ring outdoor battery-powered camera, and Ring indoor wired movable camera for the past three years. I'm not pleased with the video quality of any of them, so I'm looking for something else.

I swear this is not a “wrong board!” message but just a “hey you might find this helpful” message.

There’s a 16 page thread on this over on the tech board with a lot of good info.

If it matters, a lot of the Chinese cams on Amazon have an amazing amount of backdoors built in and require a hefty amount of permissions to setup. So if security is of any import I'd do your research before buying.
