Update: restaurant is shutting down

quote:

The Signature Southern Bistro is a restaurant on Main Street in New Roads. The business has been very successful, but that all changed when a flier came out roughly a month ago promoting an upcoming drag brunch at the restaurant.

Susan Smith Early says she thought the drag brunch would be a good idea, but she's received tons of backlash.

quote:

Drag performances have become the center of controversy recently. Many Republican legislators in various states are trying to restrict them. In Texas, State Senator Bryan Hughes filed SB 12. The proposed law would declare drag shows as sexually oriented performances and would ban anyone under 18 from attending.

Smith Early says that for her event, you have to be 21 to attend. She also says she's planning to cover the glass windows on her restaurant so that no one outside can see in.

Bold business move, especially in a small conservative Louisiana town.

Stupid business decision in that area. I support her freedoms to choose to host that event as much as everyone else’s choice to boycott her business because of it. And I do think the legislature creating a law that requires shite like that to be age appropriate is a good idea. Hell, I don’t even care if they say you have to be 16 or older. But small children at these things where dudes dressed as women are flopping dildos around is despicable.

They’re gonna hold onto the pizza boxes and use them when they count the votes in the next governor election

Susan must be tone-deaf, and not aware of her surroundings. Instead of potentially alienating 50 % of her customer based, because of her stupidity --- and allowing her political or ideological stance to come through --- she probably just alienated 80 % of her customer based --- especially in New Roads, Louisiana.

How about this, Susan? Just be a restaurant. When you first opened up, if you had a business plan, I bet it did not consist of hosting a drag queen's brunch. Stick to the basics. Serve good food consistently, and allow people to enjoy themselves for a fair price, you make a profit, and you employee those who live in the community. Rinse and repeat.

If it's adult only I don't care. It's the "All Ages" ones that are weird as shite. I'm still not sure if I want them banned, but I would judge the hell out of someone who brought their 6 year old.

Dang what if you were her poor husband that probably does all the work and bails the dishwashers out of jail not to mention put up his life savings to open the restaurant and the wife still insists on a liberal hyphenated last name and to run the restaurant into the ground with her dumb woke ideas

I think some of this is manufactured controversy.

A good bit of the local boujiee crowd will go to the drag show, have mimosas, and think it’s hilarious. It will be a big day for her business.

The real problem with that diner is the other 364 days of the year when it has almost the same menu as two other very good restaurants within walking distance. It’s a good restaurant…but it wouldn’t stand out at all if not for this controversy.

It sounds like she is talking out both ends of her mouth. Promoting, while playing the victim.

Yep, she is.

This is Susan. Susan, while a business owner, appears to not be bright.

Forget that New Roads is old school. Where are these people coming from, to book an event in New Roads? Do they live there?

From a business perspective, she should have rented out the space, been closed for brunch, not advertised and let they/them do their thing. Word would have spread, of course, it's a small town.
