A shame that we don't have enough manufacturing jobs here. Jobs that will support a family. Some now have to support a family with these sorry jobs. Rino investors need that 3rd world manufacturing profiteering.

I don't know where you live, but here in southern Oklahoma there are so many manufacturing jobs available it's crazy. I'm not kidding.

Minimum wage laws are a mistake. It should be a living wage and should vary by location and employee. The cost of production is what it is regardless of what the wages being paid are. Consumers are going to 100% of the cost of production either through purchase price or subsidies afforded low wage workers. There ain't no free lunch, unless of course you are a low wage employer relying on the taxpayer to make up the difference in your production costs and the prices you charge for your goods and services. How so many otherwise smart and learned people miss the memo that there ain't no free lunch is one of the greatest mysteries of life....

McDonald's employees deserve the same quality of life as professionals. It's just the right thing to do.

It has nothing to do with quality of life it is all about the cost of a basic existence. The cost of a basic existence does not vary between professionals and burger flippers. The low wage worker is going to make their nut iin one of three ways...wages, crime, the dole or some combination of all three. Wages is the only legitimate way, the others lead to all manner of ill shite. Why we pretend labor is a commodity which can be laid up when not needed is beyond me. An individual is going to make their nut...we can either expect their employer to make them whole or we can subsidize the employers production costs....there ain't no free lunch.

Going to show my age. $2.35 an hour de-tasseling corn to make spending money. Got me serious about education. Retired at 55 a little over a year ago. Minimum wage for shite work is supposed to be a motivator.

You can’t get $20 worth of work out of a lot of minimum wage workers in a whole day.

This will end up destroying jobs, cutting hours for people, and jacking up contracts such as union pay which are indexed off the minimum wage. By design.

They will never be able to get to an acceptable minimum wage. As they easily it the cost of everything else will go up and people counting on minimum wage will always fall behind.

Their real goal will be to hold others back in the future. Equity and all

I argue the differ. They know it and don’t care because their intention is to destroy the system so it can be replaced with what they want instead.

Kind of like Obamacare being intended as a Trojan horse for socialized medicine.

Yup, and soon, if not already, you're going to have shareholders of major companies demanding they automate everything possible as the rule, not the exception, and companies will have no choice but to comply.

It needs to be repeated and screamed over and over again that corporate special interests and "feel good" initiatives all end where shareholder stakes start to suffer.

Why stop at 20.00, why not 75-100.00 per hour. Eventually you will still have the same problems we have always had.

If someone you can replace with literally anyone off the street makes $20 an hour, a medical coder or something making $20 an hour currently in theory should get a raise because they are bringing skills to the table. Would they in practice get a raise? Probably not. And if they did it wouldn't be a $7.25 to $20 type raise.

It's a giant demotivational 'frick you' to any skilled workers.

Libs don't give a shite about responsible people. It's the same thing with people who scrimped and paid off their student loans. They sacrificed but the dipshits that dropped out and partied will have their loans forgiven and not pay the consequence.

Make it $1000 an hour. And then a loaf of bread is $750.

They defeating their own purpose. Desiring to increase minimum wage allowing minimum wage earners to keep up with rising cost will only serve to drive cost higher. Do they believe businesses will simply absorb the additional expense of higher minimum wages?
No. Businesses will pass that additional operating expense onto customers.

Minimum wage was $4.25 in 1991. Adjusted for inflation that is equivalent to $9.50 today, about 32% more than the minimum wage today. That is the federal minimum wage. It would be woefully short of the cost of production for most employees in NYC. That would mean the employee would have to make up the difference in some manner...more work, more of the dole or more of the crime. Presumably they'd need 5-6 hours a day away from work so it is, I guess, technially possible they could eke out a sustenance working 7 days a week 18 and 19 hours a day...but the logistics would be damn near intolerable as it would mean scheduling among employers. There ain't no free lunch....better for employers to pay the employee and charge the customer than to take the money from taxpayers...

Do you understand that not all jobs are meant to support someone? Minimum wage jobs like burger flippers or working at a snowball stand are supposed to be for high school kids to earn a little money. It's for them to learn the concept of work and earn money to put gas in their car. It's not meant to cover their entire cost of living alone in an apartment. It's for kids living at home with their parents.

If you want to move out, get your own place, pay all your bills, you need a "big boy job" with some type of skills.
