I’m trying to justify a new bass boat. Figuring it’s minimum $50K for what I want. That’s a 5yr note with a monthly of around $1000. Not sure how people do that.

The ones that like overtime do. Typical, no.

Making lots of money is cool, but Wealth building less so. Would rather have $2k purse with nothing in it than $200 purse with $1800 in it.

Bewilders me.

Buying chit, lots of it, and much of that is on credit, must be cool.

Wealthy is where it’s at. Enough to do what you want, when you want, with whom you want, for as long as you want….

Is pretty cool.

There's a lot of generational wealth that people don't admit to.

Examples:

Close friend is a low-paid social worker and his wife works for the Girl Scouts. Their child goes to a private school that they shouldn't be able to afford. Because they are my long-time friends, I happen to know they pay for it with an inheritance.

Close friend (different from above) got married, their wedding gift from parents was a house. Yes a whole fricking house. Here's your house! They don't have a mortgage. But you bet they have private school and very nice vehicles on middle class household income.

There's also millions of people, millions, who have slip and fall lawsuit settlements, who should be set for life, but instead spend it all on shiny shine.

There's many reasons that people who present as "middle class" have things that middle class "shouldn't" have, logically.

Stop watching the exceptions. Due to people pointing this out, I started taking an inventory while jogging through these neighborhoods. Very few are driving these new cars. Most people I see are living less exotic than we make it out around here.

Ways to build wealth are to live below your means and get out of debt. It’s hard and takes a lot of determination and commitment.

I assume these people all make double solid six figure incomes but that can’t possibly be possible right? So how are people buying this stuff? Financing and credit?
I think there’s a lot more family help than there ever was. My buddy/his wife got a very large check from her side of the family (small town rich people). They used it to buy a nice enough house and pay off car loans.

If you didn’t know this you would think they had 10 maxed out credit cards based on the lifestyle they lead, but they’re actually doing very well

I came here to post this. Most of my friends and wife's friends, have their parents contributing some if not all to household costs. Instead of passing on estate after death, the parents have decided to contribute in the day-to-day especially with education/private school.

What I cant stomach, is when parents pay for private school, groceries, etc. Then the grown kids finance new boat, RV, boob job, etc.

My first house was 120k and my first job was 28k per year. My second was 230k. My third 250k. All good investments. 4th house 800k and my previous investments made that painless. Also drive a company car. Now make 300k+ and Send max to retirement. Make smart decisions early in life and work hard and your scenario isn’t that hard fella. In that time I’ve bought a boat, jet ski, jeep, plenty of travel, etc etc. Buy within means, live within means but life is short you should still have fun

Pet peeve. Who manages the kid's schedules? Them, or the parents? fricking nuts. Wives choose to get girls, especially in dance, enrolled in 6 days a week of dance, etc., so that $1400 a month in classes, fees, uniforms, etc. just evaporates, but you have have to play Uber, so you quit? F off.

I hear you, but that isn't us. My oldest plays travel softball I'm the head coach. They practice twice a week, and on tournament weeks it's 2 practices and 1 day of games.

My middle does karate, 2 days a week.

That's 5 days a week right out the gate and we only allow our kids to do one activity.

Multiple kids, multiple activities, we are lucky for one day with nothing after school. Be realistic.

Many new homes are being bought REIT’s. So the home sales are skewed.

imagine being a plant operator pulling in that money, throwing all of it towards debt to things he can't actually enjoy due to being at the plant 60+ hours a week and saving very little after

Dad once told someone "If I have 75 cents left in my checking account at my death....I've made an error somewhere. I've always known NOT to depend on ANYONE to get me what I want ir need. People need to do the same.

On a micro scale that's sound psychological advice.

But on a macro scale what everyone else is doing with their money or credit impacts the entire economy. Those of us who are fiscally responsible get pooled in with the no impulse control crowd. It's all connected.
