I feel like these three schools are at the top of the list of teams I don’t trust come March. Little did I know, all 3 would be out in round 1. What gives? Players come and go, and these schools have been pulling off choke jobs through multiple coaches. Is it coincidence? A culture of choking?

The outlier would be Virginia’s 2019 title, but that has been followed up by two losses to 13s and was preceded by the UMBC loss.

For Virginia it’s definitely style of play/coaching style

I would say the Big Ten in general with the exception of Michigan St. Seems like every year some top 4 seed from the Big Ten gets taken out in the first round.

Kind of funny, Virginia gets beat in the first round as a four seed and they could come out of this tournament being the biggest winner of it. They are no longer alone in the Hall of NCAA Tournament Infamy.

I think Virginia is getting payback from the 2019 win over Auburn in the semis where the refs missed the double dribble violation on Virginia that allowed them to beat Auburn.

Yup put them on there since Gonzaga has only won 21 first round games out of the 24 years they have been in the NCAA tournament and of that number they have won 14 straight first round games in a row.

Gonzaga's seeds are as follows..
98-99 (10), 99-00 (10), 00-01 (12), 01-02 (6), 02-03 (9), 03-04 (2), 04-05 (3), 05-06 (3), 06-07 (10), 07-08 (7), 08-09 (4), 09-10, (8), 10-11 (11), 2011-12, (7), 2012-13 (1), 2013-14 (8), 2014-15 (2), 2015-16 (11), 2016-17 (1), 2017-18 (4), 2018-19 (1), 19-20 none, 2020-21 (1), 2021-22 (1), 2022-23 (3)

Their shitty conference just doesn't prepare them for the NCAA tournament every year.

You probably should when you’re a 1 seed every year now

Did you even read the thread? the thread is about 1/2 seeds losing in the first weekend every year

You think gonzaga belongs because theyre a high seed who never loses the first weekend?

Kansas to me is either all or nothing when it comes to the tournament. They either lose in 1st or 2nd round, or at least make the Final 4 or win it all. Might could say same for UVA. Purdue is always great in the regular season, but chokes in tournament. At least UVA and Arizona have won it all.

I never trust Kansas either and today was a good example. I know they've won a few titles but they choke a lot in the first two rounds.

The dirty truth:

The tournament format is a crap shoot. The most reliable way to win it, is to get an elite roster, and throw the dice as many times as possible. Sometimes you roll the hard 7 and get Villanova results. Sometimes you roll snake eyes and get Kentucky results.

Coaching matters in the tournament.

The difference between Villanova and UK in the tournament is that Jay Wright used to coach circles around Calipari who is an all-time “recruiter”, but an average to poor in game coach.
