A fine use of taxpayer money. Love the bit about being dressed in tactical and then getting aggressive with the home owners because the nutria wasnt home...fukn clowns.

The real issues that pose a threat to us are apparently white supremacy and illegal possesion of a quadruped.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents plan to confiscate a Bucktown couple’s pet nutria because it's illegal to possess one, the owners said Thursday.
Two years ago, Neuty was a wild infant that lived in the West Esplanade Avenue canal. When the palm-sized animal was injured while crossing the road, Bucktown residents Denny and Myra Lacoste rescued the motherless critter and nursed it to health.
quote:
The Lacostes said Wildlife and Fisheries agents arrived at the seafood store Thursday at about 4 p.m., but the couple's son had taken the orange-toothed rat for a ride. Dennis Lacoste said he was given a ticket for “possession of a wild quadruped without a license," and instructed to turn over the animal as soon as possible. Which he planned to do.
He said he was unaware keeping a nutria as a pet is illegal. He said that when he first took the wounded creature home, he contacted Wildlife and Fisheries and was told that keeping a nutria was not advisable but not illegal.
quote:
At 5:30 p.m., two armed Wildlife and Fisheries officers, dressed in military-style fatigues arrived at the Lacoste home. But after 45 minutes, Neuty had not arrived.
quote:
“We’re giving you ample opportunities to produce the nutria,” one of the agents said. “We feel like we’ve been entirely respectful this entire process. But we’re not going away, all right?” “Prolonging the process,” the officer said, could provoke further legal action.

Social media in this area is going nuts and thousands are signing some kind of online petition.
I’m sure it won’t do any good, but the agents need to be ridiculed for doing this. They offer $6 a tail from dead neutrias to encourage them to be killed. What’s the point of taking a family pet in this way

I have a picture somewhere of a dude with a pet nutria in Academy Sports from a few years ago.
It was sitting on his back/shoulder like a parrot. He had raised him from a few days old.
ETA: Here you go, Stewart the pet nutria!

Too often civil servants forget who pays their salaries. Probably not one tax payer cared for this to happen; yet, here we are.

So in a 24 period, we have state officials that have do little to do that they seize a key nutria, and we have other state officials that need an extra 6 months to review traffic studies for a store that has a beaver mascot.
Got it.
Got it.

I guess they ran out of people to ask about a fishing license?

All I read was that they were wearing fatigues. Odd thing to point out since fatigues are pretty
Common pants for anyone in law enforcements. And douchebag try hards in gun stores.
Also didn’t see anything saying they got aggressive.
Sounds like you’re the one triggered over this and you’re searching for something to stoke your outrage.
Agree though that it’s a poor use of resources.

This is fricking stupid. Those guys work in the field all day and climb in and out of boats and trucks. They aren't going to wear a suit or a city police uniform.
That being said, what a brain dead terrible move by the agency. Show up, tell the dude there is a Permit process to keep a nutria and help him fill out the forms. Don't go in and try to seize the animal. What fricking idiots.
I have dealt with those dudes twice over the years. Once we were squirrel hunting by the MS levee and a dude walked up dressed as a hunter and was asking about our hunt and making small talk. Then he badged us and demanded to see our hunting licenses. Just fricking wear the uniform and check us without the subterfuge.
The other time we were leaving our duck lease and there were eight or nine of us in four pirouges crossing the Intercoastal Canal. They were waiting around the corner in two center consoles and waited until we were in the middle of the canal and came roaring up like it was a SWAT drug bust. All of us almost capsized and we were pretty pissed. They made us toss all our shotguns in their bow and then they shook us down for ducks. I asked why they couldn't have just waited by our trucks on the opposite bank. It wasn't like we were going to run off and leave our trucks.
I am pro-police (cue BOOTLICKER!!!) but these dudes aren't very professional in my experience.

I want to thank the government for keeping us safe!!!

What a complete waste of time and money to try and confiscate this pet (not to mention making the agency look like a bunch of huge assholes). If there weren't a gazillion nutria in the area already, I could maybe understand. But that's not the case.
