USVI - February/March

Does anyone have experience traveling to the Virgin Islands, specifically St. John as a bonus, in the months of February or March? Doing some long term 2024 planning and was curious if anyone had any experiences with that time frame that would provide some helpful knowledge.

I would just land in St Thomas, grab a cab, and get to St John as soon as possible.
Also, BVI > USVI.
Also, BVI > USVI.

Yes, this is my experience in SJ. Easiest really gorgeous beach access I have experienced but I have not been there in Feb/Mar.

Absolutely perfect weather that time of year. It won’t disappoint.

We stayed in Peter Bay 2 years ago for our anniversary and it was a great spot. Absolutely perfect weather that time of year.

For traveling with kids (12 & 13) next Mardi Gras- should we look at Cruz Bay, Coral Bay, or some other area?

If you really want to do it I'd rent a catamaran with a captain and sail the BVI. Your kids would love it.

I'm not opposed to that at all. Where do I start to begin exploring options?

Either or, depending on what you prefer. My wife and I prefer lower key (comparatively) Coral Bay, so when we took the kids (9 and 12) last year that’s the area we stayed in. We stayed in On a whim and the kids loved the pool. We spent the vast majority of our time on the Northshore beaches and could be there in 5-10 minutes. If your kids are adventurous and up for a hike, I’d definitely suggest ram head. My kids loved the hike, the views at the end, and we snorkeled at blue cobblestone beach on the way back.

The Moorings
We sailed the BVI a few years ago and The Moorings was great. There are probably a couple of other charter companies down there. It is high season so it will be pricey but it's a blast.

Just did a sail trip with the moorings in February bvi. Captain and chef were great. If you have kids younger than 15-16 I probably wouldn’t recommend it. There are some other charter services around mostly out of Tortola. If you do go make sure to book a private water taxi out of st thomas if you fly in there. That saved a lot of time and heartache.

That is high season in the area so prices are highest during that timeframe. But, its worth it and the weather that time of year is fantastic. The BVI sailing trip is a great way to see the BVI's. The Moorings is the largest company down there, but there are several others in Tortola area that are equally as good and may cost less. If you have any boating experience at all, sailing yourself (without a paid captain) is very easy to do. We have done this trip several times and never had a problem sailing ourselves - in fact, sailing is a lot of fun to do and we prefer to have the whole boat to ourselves. If you're not comfortable with boating, then hire the captain.

Never been during Feb or March but I have been to St. John twice (once in May and once in July) and it is absolutely fantastic. Going with just adults or kids as well? What are y'all looking to do? Any sailing, fishing, hiking? My best recs for beaches are Maho bay (great for sea turtles sightings), Hawksnest Bay, and Trunk Bay. I can give restaurant recs as well if you want em!

We'll be adults only. Our thought is to stay on St. John in a resort or Air Bnb. We'll have a car rental to take us around the island, and also have a charter 2-3 days take us out to island hop, snorkel, fish etc.

There’s only one resort on St. John. The Westin. If you want to be able to walk to restaurants and shopping stay in Cruz Bay.
