What’s funny is all the companies I do business with send me a yeti tumbler with a restaurant gift certificate every Christmas.

I have like 2 cabinets full of tumblers I never use. I really want to ask them to send me something else but don’t want to be an a-hole but it’s getting ridiculous

25 years ago I bought a Jansport backpack with some of the money I made in summer working at McDonalds. I still have that sucker and it is in wonderful condition.

$230

I know it is expensive for most people for a day pack. I have 4 backpacks in the 30L range and they all new run in the $200-$250 range (Mountain Hardware, Osprey, and a couple of North Face. It is the perfect size for trad climbing. A decent sized rack, single rope, helmet, shoes, snacks and water for a day at the crag fits perfectly. I know most people don't need a bombproof bag but the last time I was at REI I looked at the Yeti and it is built really well, as well as the others in the price range and has some interesting features. That said I wouldn't buy one because I will buy brands I have bought for decades and I know how they wear but if you need a quality daypack everything I saw indicates it is worth the price but I use packs for serious purposes and being bombproof is actually important.

frick yeti. I remember their anti-NRA, anti-sportsman stance and I won't pretend it didn't happen. I'm not supporting a company that hates my guts.

In two more years if it only has 998 miles on it, it’ll be worth around $150k.

I like Yeti bags, but I don't like the weight.

For a tried and true travel bag, the heaviest configed Tom Bihn Synapse 25 is 1.5 pounds lighter. It's a 1/3 pound pound heavier than the 26L GR1, which is arguably the benchmark of bombproof in non-technical packs. All that said I'd probably try one if I didn't have too many bags as is.

I bet it weighs 75 lbs.

Also when did the price of ice get so high that it was necessary to keep it from melting? When my ice melts, I buy another bag. Is there some ice shortage I didn’t know about?

Are their products truly that great or this is "keeping up"?

Keeping up. My Ozark Trail stuff works just as well for a quarter of the cost.

I’ll buy an insulated cup or two from Yeti, but I’ll buy a backpack from a backpack company.

If you buy a backpack for that cost, you are incredibly stupid.

If I wasn’t mostly remote, a durable, professional backpack for my commute would be well worth $230. This Yeti is likely neither of those.

PSA: Yeti issued a recall on March 9th of 1.9 million soft coolers and gear cases. Like I said, frick Yeti. Don't eat the magnets.

CPSC

quote:

YETI has recalled 1.9 million soft coolers and gear cases due to a magnet ingestion hazard, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall involves the YETI Hopper M30 Soft Cooler 1.0 and 2.0, Hopper M20 Soft Backpack Cooler and SideKick Dry Gear Case.
The CPSC states, “The magnet-lined closures can fail and result in detached magnets, posing a risk of serious injury or death if ingested. When two or more high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract to each other, or to another metal object, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death.”
