How do you determine if something is 'good' for you? RE: Foods & Supplements.

I'm not trying to be cynical, because I do believe there are better foods and stuff out there to be had, no question. But there seems to be a never-ending array of drinks, foods and supplements out there claiming to be THE VERY THING your body needs.
But to be honest, mostly it's all garbage. Especially when it comes to vitamins with fillers & the like.
I'll try almost anything once. But if I don't notice any improvement or if I weigh the benefits to the negatives and feel it's just a waste of time, I'll just move on.
So much advertising is meant to fool us into hearing what we want to hear, but really doesn't say very much. (Same with Politics too, but that's another board)

Eating a variety of things, rather than looking for some wonder food. Don't think you have to worry if you are sticking to real fruits and vegetables

I listen to my body as to what it wants and go from there.
For instance, if she's 18+ with no kids I usually dive right in.

Not so sure about that. If I see an add that tells me x is good for me, I guess it all boils down to whether or not to believe it.
I used to think that 'natural' vitamins were the key, then went to thinking that at the molecular level, the body doesn't know from 'artificial' to natural. It just takes what it needs and uses it.
Now I may have flipped back again. Not sold on 'organic' though. That seems mostly to be a scam.

Kinda easy really. Fruits, veggies, game meat, AND beans. Beans are your friend and can be in salads, soups, rice.
Think back old days, what did they eat and stay healthy/strong? Beans and game meat. Oh, coffee too.

If you’re eating natural things - you should be good
Some health trainer once said not to eat anything that comes out of a box - which is really hard
The only health trend I come back to is fermented foods - kefir, yogurt, kombucha, Kim chi, etc

Eating less processed foods definitely makes me feel better. And lots of evidence out there to show it’s better for you. I typically try to go with stuff that doesn’t have a lot of ingredients. But not to an extreme that’s impractical.
I stay away from anything that claims an instant “detox” or anything like that.
As far as supplements, I use Pure Encapsulation brand for some basics I know I don’t get enough of through diet for medical reasons (i.e. Vitamin D, B Vitamins). They have minimal fillers (fillers can bother me sometimes) and they’ve worked well to keep my numbers up.
Honestly, it’s mostly about does it make me feel better and does it improve health from a medical perspective for me (such as does it improve my numbers).

Save for milk, I tend to agree. Yes, humans clearly can drink milk, but after the first 10-15 years, it seems that milk consumption is less and less healthy.

If it actually grew in the ground and was harvested and the sold without processing or it was once alive and then was harvested and sold without much processing and it had a risk of going bad within a month unless you process or store it correctly it’s probably good for you. Almost anything with more than 4 ingredients isn’t good for you.
If it comes in a box or a bag and can live in your nonclimate controlled pantry forever it’s probably terrible for you.

Eat lean red meat five days a week and fatty red meat the other two. Eat some eggs. Eat some spinach leaves and arugula here and there. Healthy as you’re going to get.

As few ingredients as possible. And if you have trouble pronouncing it, don’t eat it.

Roast chicken instead of chicken nuggets. Eat an orange instead of orange juice. I prefer frozen vegetables because they are typically picked at their ripest vs. fresh or canned. Fresh fruit and veggies are picked and shipped before they're fully ripened. Supplements are exactly what their name is. You absorb 15% or less of most multi-vitamins yet absorb as much as 90% or more of the nutrients in many foods. All kinds of ways to enhance absorption. For instance you can increase your absorption of iron if you eat something with vitamin c along with it. You can also decrease the absorption of iron if you by eating something with a lot of dairy in it such as yogurt. Nothing wrong with eating a hamburger your body needs iron and fat but everything in moderation.
