I just received a warning for a Yeti Hopper soft sided cooler I had purchased a few years ago. Amazon sent me a notice to immediately stop using the cooler. After checking it out apparently the government decided that the magnets that yeti used in the closure is an ingestion hazard. It boggles my mind that they would issue a recall for something like this. I would love to be on a jury over something like this.

Recall

Yeah I saw it today on a news page. I immediately thought about how stupid you would have to be to have it not only fall off but then decide it’s a good idea to eat it.

Sent one back late last year because the magnets came apart from the cooler, but we’re still attached to some plastic shite. Of course I was disappointed in the quality, after sending the previous zipper hopper back before.

Gonna ride this one out then take the recall and get something else. They’re quick with the whole warranty process.

PI lawyers suck and should be hung.

Don’t own the Yeti in question FWIW.

The biggest choking hazard with Yeti is that price tag.

This. What’s the price tag on holding ice for 13 more hours than their competitors that are 2/3 or half the price? Do you really need that shite or is it a status symbol ?

Ehh, it's whatever. If a product is consistently falling apart and dropping magnets inside of your cooler with the potential of landing in your food that could cause life threatening injuries if those pieces make it into your intestines. If it uses neodymium magnets they are incredibly brittle, a few shards shatter and fall into an open food container they could easily be injected. If those shards are consumed the could become attached together with stomach or intestines pinched between them. That's a problem.

Is any of this likely to happen? No.

Do you get a new and improved cooler in exchange for your defective one? Yes.

So why are you complaining?

I forgot you were paying my bills for the rest of the year, my bad.

I like the fact that it comes with a sticker I can put on my truck and a big YETI written on the bottom. That way when I’m skeetin across the magzielle and shear my lower unit on a booskio, it’ll be easy to identify the necessary shite I need to pick up out the water. That flashed 250 SHO turned 327 does about 80 in a no wake, pissing people off.

Like “damn baw, that’s my yeti. Better grab that first.”

Really though, I didn’t have any yetis and I wanted one. Had some spare change. Sometimes I call myself stupid, but it does it’s job better than some cheaper ones I’ve had before

Yea some people are idiots.

Also, idk about you, but I have set something into an ice chest temporarily that was open. I'm on the boat and I have a bowl of chicken salad, after opening it and setting my bread on the lid I realized I didn't grab the spoons. So I set the bowl in the ice chest and closed the lid so flies didn't land on it. It's a totally plausible situation because I've done it before. I could have ended up with magnet shards in my chicken salad. It's perfectly possible to them swallow the small shards without your teeth hitting them and notifying you that something is in your food.

I'm just saying it's possible. I'm also not turning down a brand new ice chest or full refund so I can buy a brand new ice chest.

Thank you for sharing this.

I got one of those as a replacement from Yeti and instantly disliked the closing feature but they wouldn't let me swap it. I guess I will now!

The new hoppers stay open when you open them instead of having to wedge something in there to fill it up with beer. I like this one better than the original magnet hopper. The zipper on the old hopper tore my arms up reaching in and out.

Zipper broke and they replaced it with the M30, but that same week or so they released the M30.2. They had a trade-in program at the time, as well and they wouldn't even let me participate in that. The stay-open feature would have been nice. I like the form of the hopper because it carries nice down to the beach...

The stay open feature is still magnetic. Is that the replacement or is that what they are replacing.

Yea puss in that I’m gonna keep mine until they come out with something else. I already have 2 45’s so I don’t need another one. Plus I really love this hopper!

It’s still magnetic. The first run of magnetic hoppers were a pain in the arse because when you opened it, the magnets would slap it back shut. I used to keep a 16oz miller bottle long ways in between the magnets to keep it open to fill it up. They evidently saw it was an issue, so now it keeps itself open and you have to close it yourself, which is easier to deal with than the first run.

I’m not sure what they would swap with.

FYI you don't have to select a cooler to swap, you can receive a gift card. For the M30 hopper it was $325 card or a flip 18 and $50 gift card.
