DOT has impressed me

the I-10 widening project has so many unique features. From 90 degree turns, to fancy sound barriers. The I-10 widening will be great once completed. Am looking forward to less traffic in 6 lanes to more traffic in 8 lanes. That just means we will be stopped a few miles further down the road all in all it’s a win. Hopefully the next segment will fix the traffic at I-10 near College East Bound. Once that is fixed less traffic is bound to occur. 2027 can’t get here fast enough for the successful project to complete.

The most impressive thing about their plan is when they deny that during the work, I-10 will not be reduced to one lane in each direction except in the area that it will be reduced to one lane in each direction

90 degree turns
Pretty sure you’re not even talking about the same project…
Also, what is your point? Do you think they shouldn’t widen I-10?

The 90 degree turn is on 415 which is the beginning of the widen project. While it’s separate it’s indirectly going to affect the project as a whole. The widening needs to happen and want to see it happen just not thinking it will happen within the time frame presented.

The 90 degree turn is at the connection with LA1 and it’s like 6 miles away from the interstate. It’s also pretty obvious from the renderings that they are setting it up to add a future on-ramp/off-ramp on the north side of the interchange, making it like the current setup at the Mall of LA.
It most certainly is not “the beginning of the widening project.”

This project will be a total fiasco for the recently "traffic calmed" one laned Government street. It will be bumper to bumper 18 wheels from Jefferson to downtown. Now booming Mid city Businesses will close.

This will be for all the major surface streets as well. Even if they shut the interstate down to just two lanes in either direction, this is going to shove a lot of traffic onto surface streets (thus making everything a massive clusterfrick). This, of course, becomes worse if they stick with the one-lane-in-either-direction plan.

They have to, they put concrete medians all up and down Government, unless they tear them out temporally.

My favorite NOLA project has to be the Airport Flyover Ramp. It is taking forever to build. That should have been built while the airport was under construction, but politics were at play here.
Speaking of that project, I noticed that they were building 10 foot high sound walls along that stretch of the interstate to reduce noise, but on the other side of the city in New Orleans East they are building a 3 foot concrete barrier to replace the fence along I-10. I guess it is more important to keep the automotive traffic sounds near the airport down, while keeping the automotive traffic sounds in the East to cover up the gunshots on I-10.

The actual product they are going to build is very good.
How they are going to build it is not.
How they are going to build it is not.

If only the guy responsible for all of that positive change would run for Governor.

The traffic flows smoothly and it’s doing exactly what it was meant to do, revitalize the govt street corridor. The point of it was to make it more business/pedestrian friendly while pushing commuting traffic to north boulevard.

Can you elaborate on this? What phase do you think they are lying about and why?

The one-lane-in-each-direction thing has been debunked, no? Wilson has stood up at several public meetings and demonstrated with maps and graphics how it is supposed to work. I mean, if you simply think he’s lying, that’s one thing. But maybe he’s not.

It wouldn't matter if Government had eight lanes. This will be a colossal pain in the arse for the region for four years.

I believe they recently changed it to 2 lanes but at the cost of increasing the construction time by a year (or 5)

The EB and WB traffic to/from the bridge are going to share the current WB flyover while the EB ramp from the bridge (the one with the Washington St exit) are closed.
Originally, that was going to result in one EB and one WB lane to/from the bridge because the WB flyover only has room for two lanes.
Now they are going to widen the WB flyover first before they start the other closures. That will allow them to fit 1 EB and 2 WB lanes which is basically what we have now because of the Washington St exit. It’s going to delay project completion but it won’t affect the duration of the larger lane closure. It’ll just delay the start date.

You're not paying attention then. I'm not talking about how it's working now under normal traffic. I'm talking about the disaster this widening project is going to cause once it starts. Have you seen Govt street when the Interstate is backed up for a wreck? It's filled with 18 wheelers on a two lane road and is nearly impassable.

You clearly don't work with the DOT. It's the worse run agency in the state and the next Governor should dismantle the entire thing and start over.
