$35 million a year for this little of improvement?
So a sportline prediction before free agency even starts dictates whether or not this is a good decision?
He's currently paid as the 9th highest QB in the league. Once Lamar gets his deal, he drops to 10th. If Burrow gets his extension, his average drops to 11th. Daniel Jones & Jimmy G will have Carr's contract range from 11-13th highest. That's fair value.
And, when you factor in the fact that there is a potential out after 3 years, his deal is really a $33.3M average. That would put him at 13th highest (after Geno's contract is finalized. Again, add in the above and his contract falls somewhere in the 15th-17th range. Are we really debating that he's not a top 15-17 QB?

Yes, the Raiders dumped Carr. We dumped CJGJ. Does that mean that CJGJ is a bad player?
Carr didn't fit their offense. CJGJ had issues with Saints management. Sometimes players get dumped for reasons other than talent.

teams let capable QBs go for various reasons
The Bucs let Jameis and he hasn’t been eating as many dubs ever since.

Context matters,
Carr was benched for Jarret Stidham so not the same situation by a long shot
It sure does, but Carr's benching had more to do with his relationship with McDaniels and their current record/playoff situation. While the situations for those QBs were different than Carr's, it is still relevant in the discussion that just because a team moves on from a QB doesn't mean the player is done. Hell, if you take that approach why even participate in free agency at all?

The problem you're failing(or refusing) to realize is you're assuming every team has the same salary cap situation. $33 million has an entirely different meaning for one team to the next. This is destroying our Cap next year.
Everyone should absolutely ask themselves how many more games should we win next season to justify paying him that much more than what we would pay Dalton.
is one or two more wins with a playoff appearance worth it? It isn't in my book. The goal is a Super Bowl. Carr has not shown us to be a Super Bowl quarterback.

You explained the situation perfectly, over paying for a RB is the type of thing that hurts teams, that this post was 0-5 downvotes tells me all I need to know about most posters on this board
He did explain it correctly but if you are taking a running back in the first round and he’s not a complete bust (he had a few 1,000 yard seasons) you always exercise that 5th year option. You can then franchise him the next two years and let him walk after without giving him that 2nd contract that usually never ends well for the team.

Look, sometimes it doesn't matter just how fine a chick is, someone somewhere is sick of her shite.

Take comfort in this or not who cares but the Saints FO does not believe in those number projections you posted.

Well no shite.
But they also believe Carmichael and Allen are worth keeping.

Winston was so good the Bucs sent him packing.
Posted on 3/7/23 at 3:49 pm to SmogkDeizKnutz
McDaniels also drafted Tim Tebow

You act like we're not talking about one of,if not the worst front office's in the NFL consistently. They're a terribly ran organization. And by the way teams let players go all the time just to see said player have success elsewhere. The Chargers let Brees walk. There are a multitude of reasons why this happens.

seriously....If I had a nickel every time this board compared a QB situation to Brees, I could retire.

It was such a stupid post. Like because a team lets a player walk that means they're no good? It must take a lot of hard work to come up with takes this idiotic.
Posted on 3/7/23 at 4:54 pm to pankReb
Nobody said that. And there are too many players to name that have been let go and went on to have success with their new team.
Posted on 3/7/23 at 5:22 pm to pankReb
By all means keep doing your thing. I really enjoy reading all these terrible takes. We have them in abundance around here.
Posted on 3/8/23 at 2:50 am to TigerKing19
you quite literally compared the two situations. That isn't even arguable.

There was arguably no one better who was available and within the Saints financial structure.

quote:Actually we are a couple restructures and cutting Peat post June 1st and we will have room for the Carr deal and our draft. Next year it appears we will go into the season less than $10 mil over the cap. Another quick restructure and we have three picks in the first two rounds. Gotta build through the draft.
