Holy crap - the view of Kirkwood during the crash
Posted on 5/28/23 at 2:15 pm to Diseasefreeforall
It just missed the Grandstands

Yeah the onboard camera with Kirkwood was awesome and terrifying at the same time.

Kirkwood opened his visor upsidedown with sparks flying.
What a state of mind.
must be pure instinct at that point to try to figure out where you are spatially on the track

Thank God for the aero screen.

Lucky that wheel cleared the stands, that would have been really bad.

Looks like the tire may have hit some vehicles parked right outside the grandstands.

I remember one time during the Coke 600 Brian Vickers lost a wheel and it bounced into the infield and went through the roof of a pop up camper.

Looked like it hit something hard and bounced up. Still looked like some people scattered. Hopefully they looked closer than they actually were

been a while since I've seen a tire fly that far near the stands in any race

Judging by the reaction of the people in those suites it was very close.

The absence of competition cautions and stages has made this a very enjoyable race to watch.

I was at an ARCA race at Talladega when I was a kid and a big chunk of debris flew off Bobby Allison's car and barely got caught by the top of the catchfence.
One of those moments where it felt like time slowed down while it was happening.

As they said, tires are tethered these days.
The tether got sliced like a hot knife through butter right on impact. Scary

Hah, that’s what you get for parking close to a sporting event.
