How many of the private schools are co-ed now?

Are all of the Catholic schools still separate?

That would be a big deal for me.

Your kids are going to have to deal with the opposite sex and minorities once they join the real world.

Religious schools are not on the same tier as a private school. They use the the “religious exception” to avoid traditional state standards in education.

The state standards in Louisiana are utterly worthless. Parochial schools outperform public schools in Louisiana in every objective measurement without conforming to certain state requirements.

The vast majority of those standards have little to do with education and a lot to do with union conformity and protection.

I always laugh at this argument considering the actual performance of students from these schools.

Yes, the adults that went to Jesuit, Brother Martin, Dominican, and Mount Carmel are really struggling compared to public school peers 20 years after graduation.

100% agree but my observation of Louisiana students has been academic success is predicted by family resources and commitment to education more so than institutional advantages.

I pulled my 12 yr old daughter out of Zachary middle and put her in private school. Best money I’ve spent.

Without reading comments I am just going to say this is a pretty broad question.

Not all schools, public and private are equal..

Now if we could control for family money in those comparisons…

Its far easier to be successful if you come from successful parents. That isn’t really controversial

And in most cases the school you attend won't matter that much unless it's really bad and drags the kid down

right, but I knew some really bad off kids that went to those schools chalmetteowl mentioned - you don’t have to be from a rich, successful family to go to those schools

Too many of yall just automatically assume all privates are better than publics. That could not be further from the truth. There are 2 private schools in my area - neither can hold a candle academically to the 5 publics. There is a reason private school test scores are not released for every school.

What would you say the % of bad off family situations is at Jesuit compared to East Jeff or McDonough 35?

not sure - but the fact that kids who are bad off can go to Jesuit and become successful is the point

My only stip behind going Private is the kids that went to private when I was in school were all shite heads with rich parents. I don’t want to fit that description or even be close to it

Without reading an entire thread... Maybe your perception back then was wrong, and maybe more of those families were just like you are now. Wanting to provide the best opportunity for your children.

You need to weigh the fact if your child will make the most of private. Both my boys are 4.0 students but the oldest loves school and already knows he wants to go into Bio Engineering at 11. My youngest will live on my couch the rest of his life. I have thought about paying for the oldest to go to private because I know he will make the most of it. My other one I am not so sure. I went to Episcopal and didn’t take advantage of it.

When I say didn’t take advantage, I didn’t try. If I tried I could have went Ivy League with the connections Episcopal gave you. I was fine with state school.
