Is anyone else overly impressed with the amount of people that can make contact with Skenes 98-100MPH

Well when that’s all he is throwing tonight, you just gotta be short to the ball and time it uo

I am but I’ve also wondered why he hasn’t been mixing in more sliders or change ups. Clearly they are just sitting fastball.

Hall on the Yankees throws a 99mph 2-seamer with 20" of run and dudes still hit it. Baseball has come very far since the 90s

He's a machine. That's the only explanation I have for Paul Skenes.

I used to think the same when Aroldis Chapman pitched for the Reds. He had 105 velocity and an unhittable slider at around 83-85 that he threw for strikes. Problem was he never mixed in that slider (probably threw it 5% of pitches) enough to worry hitters so they sat on fastball. Even 105 is hittable if that’s all you’re seeing. Hopefully Skenes uses his other pitches more effectively because he’ll need them against better competition.

It’s all about being short, compact and twitchy with your wrist and hips. Had to learn quick when I got to college

From 13-17 little league I struck out twice. Not saying I was great but I was a good contact hitter. I had a knack for timing. Thousands more can do the same. Doesn't shock me

I imagine he’ll mix it up more in conference play.

Not really, tons of college hitters can make contact with high 90s fastballs. Thats why location and changing speeds is more important than velo

When the blur enters their zone they react violently with incredible bat speed. The movement causes the fouls and foul tips.
