Bands that fell off after 1 member left/kicked off

In my opinion one of the most glaring examples is Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. The creativity and rhythms absolutely sunk the moment he left and while Mangini is a fantastic drummer, his presence in Dream Theater specifically feels stiff and rigid. Distance Over Time was serviceable, but everything else is lackluster.
And no you can’t say Cliff Burton.

Journey... the current singer just sounds like karaoke in Chinatown... You can even here his Rs and Ls are off.
Alice in Chains... There was only one Layne Staley.

The Who - The death of Keith Moon was the end of that band for me.

Creedence Clearwater Revival.
According to John Fogerty, he wasn't so much aked to leave as he was asked to step back and allow the other band members to do more of the writing. So he stepped all the way back to give them a chance and they ended up producing the worst album of their careers. They were never the same.

After Duane Allman was taken from us the Allman Brothers were not as good or as dynamic. I can't say they were bad, but they were different.
A band with a definite subtraction by addition was Fleetwood Mac. Just go back and listen to pre Stevie Nicks albums like Mystery to Me, and you can tell the substance is much more profound. Stevie took them into Top 40 wasteland........but they made a lot of money selling fluff to 13 year old girls.

Jerry Was the creative force of that band. With all respect to Layne and what he brought.qish he could've gotten the right help in life.

The Doors
Led Zepplin
Linkin Park
Nirvana
Soundgarden
Lynyrd Skynryd
etc..
Not been a ton of bands that recover when the singer leaves or dies.

Band wasn't officially over but it was over. Krist and Kurt got in a public fistfight at the, I think it was Tacoma Airport. Kurt ran off and I think that was the last time they ever talked to each other.

For Sure. Alice in Chains still kicks arse, just a more grown up sound now. Obviously not as good as the early years. Jerry Cantrell is a band mother fricker.

Comepletely agree about DT…Portnoy DEFINITELY brought the heaviness to the band…now all their albums sound like Jordan Rudes solo albums with the other DT members along for support.

That, plus David Foster turning them into a ballad band.
