Before they even contemplate this, they should cap (or reduce) tuition at any institution that accepts student loans moving forward. Universities with endowments over a certain amount should also be required to contribute to any planned debt cancellation. Otherwise this is nothing but a transfer of free money to those institutions. To be clear, I’ll be pissed if this happens, having paid off my kid’s loans a few years back. The only thing I’d support is a switch to low or no interest.

It's called welfare. It's where you get free money from other people's pockets who didn't have the same option as you do.

In a reasonable world they'd also be held accountable for charging 200k for degrees which aren't contributing to the country and don't generate enough income to pay for themselves.
We can't do that, of course, because it's "political" to acknowledge that social sciences (well the entire academy now) has shifted focus to creating little political advocates rather than people who can be productive to their communities and earn a living. Truth is, even if you're a liberal arts proponent (as I am), we're no longer putting out writers and artists and thinkers of any value - we're charging 6 figures to make carbon copies of the same regurgitating woke imbecile.
This is yet another problem that just can't be solved in a country of 350m people where the institutions won't acknowledge the core issue - that a huge amount of university funds/efforts go toward things that are in no sense enriching to our country/society.

The best part of the stimulus was that those that produced nothing and were already on welfare, got stimulated for some reason. They loss nothing but were rewarded along with the actual victims of the government shutdown.

In fairness a lot of "conservatives" had their hands out for stimulus on this board.
Examples?

I have 30k in student loans and will gladly take the 20k that the program would give me. But I'm still not voting for Biden.
But I have no problem if it's struck down. I will pay what i borrowed no questions asked.

Wish I could downvote twice:
Once for the just giving away money and again because he is unconstitutionally giving away the money without congressional approval.

Don't matter. 5 SCOTUS justices aren't.

Forgive their student loans? Sure...provided the students also have to forfeit their degree and diploma and all hours/credit financed by those loans.
