Recently on Facebook, I have been seeing post of the cookbook recipe and the end results of various Vernon Rogers Cajun recipes. I’m not familiar with him except the little that I am reading. The food looks great.
Are his recipes legit? Any of his cookbooks worth buying, if so, which ones? Thx

Legit and the books are difficult to find. Buy any one you can.

Great recipes despite his terrible personal life.

I have 2 of his cookbooks. Every recipe I’ve tried out of them (and I’ve tried a bunch) are very good. Nothing fancy, but very good food.

I have the “Lite” cookbook unfortunately. But it’s not hard to figure out where he made it “lite”. Just substitute the bad stuff

I saw one copy, Roger's Cajun Cooking, at a used book store in the French Quarter back in November. $100, signed by Vernon.
It might still be there.

It Depends

Vernon was from Eunice and definitely knew how to cook and capture an audience. Unfortunately his demons and alcoholism led to him taking his own life.

Roger was a TV on-air personality who self-published his cookbooks targeting the Baton Rouge WAFB television audience. If you are near BTR you might find one at the Friends of LSU Library sale in April ...LINK
I searched at AbeBooks and only found a single book for sale in Tacoma Wa. $36 ... way too much.

Aside from his personal life, his clips on WAFB were much more entertaining and recipes more fitting to the casual/family cook than Folse's pretentious crap and Ahysen's pitiful attempt towards humor.

Didn’t he also have a restaurant somewhere on Bluebonnet around 1990 or so?

Spot on. The worst was Folse and Paul Gates. Paul goofed his way through the entire segment and Folse pretended to laugh at everything Paul did and dropped the word "Pauuuul" ever 6 seconds.

I think he did. Maybe the old Boutin's place (might have originally been Cock of the Walk). Sometime in that mix it might have been Roger's

Yes, across from Perkins Rowe in that strip the Subway is in. Excellent, but didn't last too long.
